CLT-GRU gone?

How ignorant are you?

US does seasonal pull downs every winter....

Get a clue.

So, you believe the loss of CLT-GRU is a seasonal pull down?  Interesting spin, I guess.

how many pre merger US jobs are being lost as a result of these moves?

AA and US have no single carrier status for FAs and pilots or any other workgroup which means that work is being lost by US employees even if AA is shifting its own Brazil routes around.

What actions are US' unions doing to protect these jobs?

Let's understand this - US is stopping two routes out of CLT - where is the announcement did they say they were parking the A330 or 767 - so the crews are not impacted - with two less flights out of CLT doubt there is much change in staffing on ground staff / gate staff especially when you consider natural attrition etc - then lets go to GIG and GRU - US uses contractors in those cities with the exception of a handful of agents - so they maybe impacted or absorbed into AA - so once again overblown

think he says that bec josh was the first to say CLT will take drastic cuts  and they both love to see job losses at US/AA bec its ex HP/US mgmt. running the show  or in the mind of them two its the ex HP/US ruining the airline

In addition to to losing GIG and GRU, looks like some domestic routes are downsizing out of CLT for summer 2015:

CLT-SAN - currently 1 A321 and 1 A320, summer 2015 - 2 A320
CLT-LAX - currently 6 A321, summer 2015 - 5 A321
CLT-SFO - currently 6 A321, summer 2015 - 5 A321
CLT-SEA - currently 4 A321, summer 2015 - 1 A320, 1 A321

I read some place, maybe this forum, that the "new" AA will be adding 80 flights to MIA in the near future. Can anyone confirm this, and if to be true, are many of the 80 flights resulting in additional downsizing of CLT?

The schedule for then isnt set, those are place holder flights.

CLT isnt downsizing, they been adding flights and growing.

No one is going to fly south to connect north.

CLT and MIA serve two different roles.

Thanks for the explanation! Regarding CLT to Europe, I fly mostly to LHR and CDG. While I am not concerned with CLT to LHR since those flights are hub to hub, do you think we will hold onto the CLT to CDG flights at least seasonally? (I do miss having this flight year round as I fly to CDG during the winter months from time to time!) Also, looking into purchasing tickets from CLT to FCO for June 2015. It is showing on the schedule now, but any thoughts on that flight remaining out of CLT during the peak seasons?

I forget, since the merger, where were these additional flights to?

For the most part, you're probably correct.  But what if PHL expands and adds direct service to many of the Southeast cities.  That could definitely impact CLT.  Could DCA also handle some of that north-south traffic?

They sure do.  MIA is an extremely important hub in the new AA system...CLT, not so much.

They did add CLT-LHR.  It seems during mergers (No. 3 for me) people enjoy seeing others' lives destroyed. This American bunch is particularly notorious.

Interestingly, I read in today's USA Today that LHR is evolving into a top technology global mecca. It will become as important as silicon valley to the global tech paradigm.
There is a very good chance that more LHR flights other than the one just added, will come to CLT as time goes on...

Forbes on LHR tech

CLT is the second to only DFW in flights with the new AA, its not going anywhere and will grow, like Parker and Kirby have stated and US is even flying PMAA routes now.

just won't include any service to S. America.... where AA is the largest airline.

I concur, CLT is the perfect growth environment for O&D as well CONX to augment AA's new route structure. You will not recognize CLT in a few years!

Long haul flying is often the precursor for a larger scale draw down and rationalizing of capacity.
