CEO of US Airways will spend one day in jail

Parker was not due to appear until Wednesday but the date was moved at the request of his Phoenix attorney.

AZ Central

Sounds like to me that he did in fact get special treatment and out of the eyes of the press.....hummm
At least when he goes in to jail, he won't have to listen to Glen Campbell sing. He did that when he got caught, that would be torture and inhumane.

How is moving a hearing date a day earlier special treatment? His attorney probably had something else going on the original date.
He didn't have to appear in court and face the press. Do you think the court would have done the same for you?

And you can give it a break in on the attorney thing.... He got special treatment pure and simple.

How about he promise to stop drinking and driving. Promise to stop risking other peoples lives with his own weakness for booze.
The double standard everyone is talking about, is the fact that he is the head of a company who would fire a pilot flight attendant or mechanic, who if had done the same thing, and had been as widely reported, would have been sacked. The rules should apply equally to all. If any other employee can drink drive risk others lives, be as reported, then plead guilty to the offense and serve time in jail with no repercussions or record to it on file. Then fine case closed about how its a double standard between management and hourly workers.

As for character, please after drinking and driving, he has no character.

It will be interesting to see how the company handles this. While it is true, some employee groups are held to more of a "zero tolerance" standard than others because of government regulations, the company claims that it holds all employees to certain standards of behavior -- on and off the clock. If HR decides to let a "high ranking official" slide, will that open the door for more second chances for the "worker bees"?

Wrong. An attorney CAN and in fact often will appear for you. Thats a fact

I lived in Arizona for a short period of time and I remember reading that the inmates had to wear black and white striped uniform with PINK underwear. I think Doogie would be the hit of the Cell Block D wearing a pink speedo lol

Yes I do--as a matter of fact I know someone who had a DUI several months ago, and he never had to appear in court, the attorney appeared for him.

Could not have said it better!!!! Anyone else would have been terminated per the ethics handbook. Is his license going to be suspended? After 4 it should be.

And did your friend happen to get a second DUI charge against him dropped at the same time along with a speeding violation?

As I understand it, in AZ once you reach 12 points you can have your license suspended for one year. DUI is 8 points, speeding is three.

We know DoUgIe has at least one DUI. That’s 8 points.

We know DoUgIe was going 20 miles over the speed limit. That would have been three more.

We are now up to 11.

Second DUI?* 8 more.

Two speeding violations in Scottsdale? 6 more.

Now my math says that could be as many as 25 points. And while I can’t find a AZ law to the effect, in NC if you are convicted of 15 miles over, it is an automatic one year suspension. My guess is AZ has something similar.

And you want to argue that he didn’t get special treatment behind closed doors and out side the view of the public or the press. Right…..

EDITED TO ADD:
*Apparently DUI's in AZ are charged with two offenses and one or the other is routinely dropped.

1.) 28-1381A1 Driving while impared to the slightest degree.
2.) 28-1381A2 Driving with an alcohol concentration over .08%.

US Airways CEO sentenced to one day in jail for drunk driving
The Associated Press
PHOENIX: The CEO of US Airways will spend one day in jail for his drunken driving arrest shortly after his airline's $9.8 billion (€7.5 billion) bid for Delta Air Lines was rejected.

Doug Parker, 45, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one DUI charge. Prosecutors asked that a second DUI charge and a speeding charge be dismissed.

Parker will spend 24 hours in jail on March 15. The judge also fined Parker $1,646.25 (€1,252) and ordered him to be screened by a doctor to determine if he has a problem with alcohol addiction.

Parker was pulled over Jan. 31 after leaving a party.

US Airways acknowledged the sentence in a statement to employees Tuesday: "Doug knows he made a serious mistake and has apologized for his actions. He plans to adhere to all of the court-directed repercussions and restitutions that come about from this charge."

I think it is fair to say, after this incident, that Mr. Parker is clearly representative of all employee groups in all Airlines. Human and not infallible! His indescretions were very minor, and he does not deserve the widespread criticism displayed here.

For the continued improvement of this Company it necessary to put this behind us, and stop feeding the Media!

From the CNN article.

"At a hearing in Scottsdale City court, Parker "accepted full and total responsibility for his recent DUI charge by entering a guilty plea to this charge (against the advice of his attorney)," US Airways said in a statement."

Rescheduling court appearances is as routine as tying ones shoes.

I marvel at the self righteous on here who are so high and mighty and eager to pass judgement. If he does it again I WIL have a totally different point of view.

For right now all I have to say to Doug is "Go Forth and Sin no more"
I marvel at those who choose to give him a pass because he is a CEO, or because U is making some money. Its hardly self righteous to simply want to see the guy making the rules be also bound by them and held to an equal standard by the company.

Good God, "IF" he does it again? Please he has been caught 4 times already. Based on that, odds are he's already done it again. Best you can hope for is that he doesnt injure or kill someone.
