Calling ALL Cockroaches - Customers Only

Don't forget, some banks won't even accept pennies unless they are rolled! Try carrying 30 rolls of pennies around!

And let's not forget the extra weight all these pennies would cause on the aircraft. More weight means more fuel burned. This bites them twice, even better!

I think you're looking at this all wrong, mrman. They don't want customers earning miles. Wouldn't that effect really be a good thing in management's view? Less miles outstanding meaning less liability on the spreadsheet.

I'm sure they want the huge revenue cash stream from selling miles to third party CC, rental car companies

I think if one wanted to make a stink about US not accepting the pennies they could and US would have a problem on their hands. They are legal tender and must be accepted. The press would just love it these days
The Treasury Department does not agree with you.

http://www.treas.gov/education/faq/currenc...al-tender.shtml

"The pertinent portion of law that applies to your question is the Coinage Act of 1965, specifically Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, entitled "Legal tender," which states: "United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues."

This statute means that all United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor. There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy."

... but it's a double edged sword. Just selling miles doesn't give them only cash, but the miles liability that goes with it. It's not as simple as you may think, at least from an accounting standpoint.

Great. I'm betting US has no such policy. If nothing else if will give one of the bean counters something to coming up with a new policy......

Going to try it anyway when I use my last free tickets.

Yes it adds a liability, but it greatly increases cashflow. And when that liability is releaved it becomes revenue. In todays enviroment when you are talking shutting the doors cash is king

You never have read well.....the title says customers only. Besides, they are getting paid whether the are serving me or the next customer. Might even give them a much needed break while we count out our pennies.

If enough people do it, management will have to notice. Just let the new ticket counter agent ( you know the one they hired off the street last week and doesn't know how to turn on the computer) take 25 minutes to check in your bag while you count out the 1500 pennies and the line grow and grows and grows.......
Last I checked it is not longing4piedmontusaviation.com, it is free for anyone to post.

For the record this is the "Official" position of FFOCUS.
At the risk of being associated in any shape form or fashion with FFOCUS (used to be but that was a long time ago) I'm going to suggest that this did not go far enough. You needed to have called for the kids in Tempe's resignation. What they have done to this airline is beyond believe and if I was a stock holder I would talking to attorneys to see if there was any legal recourse against them for what they have done.

PEOPLE who complain about rising costs should be advised GAS PRICES ARE ON THE RISE! WHAT DO YOU THINK WE FILL THE PLANES UP WITH WATER?
Try flying an airlne when we are all outta business

Quit complaining and cough up the extra money you dont like it buy your own plane.

Wanna Blame someone BLAME THE OPEC AND THE PRESENT POLITICAL GOVERMENT OF THE USA

Average voter turn out in the past Presidential Election was around 35 percent wanna start fixing things get out and vote out the bums

. . .. They have to take them, they are legal tender. . . .
Actually, no they don't. A private business is free to determine what type of currency it will accept.

(Is it against the law to sell a product in a vending machine that does not take pennies?)

Little late to the party but thanks any way to the wanna be lawyer........

We are going to find out if they have a written policy and just have many of the employees have access to it or know about it though.....

I am assuming that the FA's have already lit up the OP for suggesting counting out pennies one by one.....please don't suggest things that only insult and further frustrate the employees. We are all affected by this.
