we should direct our energy towards this AA merger and set aside our contract talks for the time being ....

without an AA merger , I fear that many of our jobs will be In jeopardy in the long term ... our company needs our support now more than ever .

But because of nicoloiu, if this merger doesnt go then parker will have to merge with someone. I vote for southwest but that may never happen. So id prefer hawaiian or alaska over jetblue

you all know what the company is going to say " we're a smaller carrier , we can't afford to give you much , we have to keep our costs low so we can remain competitive "

Not saying I believe this but one of the local business reporters on local tv said US may be willing to give up the CLT hub in exchange for approval. All the more reason you folks need a contract NOW.

Parker wants this bad. He will give up whatever is needed. This delay may have a very positive affect on the small us stations since i cant imagine the company announcing any stations contracted out if lights are glaring.

Then the same thing happens at UA/CO because they're now the smallest. Then DL. Then AA will be the only one left. Oh wait, that's right. This whole scenario won't happen because Freedom will give the company whatever they need.

I can tell you what I will do , I won't give up ... if all of us simply assume that we are helpless , then we are helpless , but if we as a GROUP make a conscious decision NOT to give up , to actually make our voices heard , then it's a start , at least we can claim we went out fighting instead of sleeping over in the corner ...

Not give up doing what? Tell us what actions you are taking to accomplish this. For example (I can't believe I need to do this...) if you were to say "I'm supporting my family." when I asked "How?" the proper response might be "By making enough money to provide them what they need." or "By providing my children with the supportive presence of going to their game or concert." Tell us what you are doing SPECIFICALLY. If you fail to do this you are, quite simply, all talk and full of ####.

I don't think this is about CLT, but rather DCA and to a lesser degree, PHX. The merged company will control approximately 2/3s of all the DCA slots, and outside of SWA, what other real competition will be in the Southwest part of the US? Sure UA in LAX, but that's more of an International/Hawaiian gateway. And while SWA is a very robust competitor in the region, they avoid the smaller communities which would be affected adversely with a merger which impacts the region from LAX to DFW. Reading between the lines in the DOJ press release, "American and US Airways compete directly on more than a thousand routes where one or both offer connecting service..." so that isn't about the larger cities because, because there isn't simply enough to get to a thousand different combinations especially as being the exclusive carrier(s), but the smaller towns as part of the equation.

Personally, I think PHX is on the chopping block with a merger regardless and CLT is already a second city to DL's fortress hub in ATL and AA's current impact along the southern Atlantic coast is minor, but the Tempe Boys cannot publically admit to their plans for political reasons.
