April/May 2013 Pilot Discussion

When I was an F/O on the 727, I had a long debate with my father over which of us had the job with less work. At the time he was a government-employed bridge tender on a very quiet waterway.

The debate was a draw. Then, I think, we had a beer.

I can't think of too many easier jobs than FO on the 727. I think you should have won the bet. You were an IP on that airplane, right?

Except for the fact that my father got paid to sit 8-hour shifts and often never had to raise the bridge. Plus, he could watch TV and read material not relevant to operating the bridge.

I was never an IP on the 727, nor on any other airplane since being hired at old Piedmont.

BIG U Little U, 9 light trip and Capt KVAR, Bell Bros., now that is aviation!

Jim Burton, great guy. Rest his soul. Don't forget R51 and no manual paralleling the generators! Engine intermix and hand near the dump door if engine quit on takeoff going to the left coast.

Yep. "Two mints, two mints in ONE!"

This is not rocket science.' It does not matter if we present it in "one big list." All we are obligated to do by our CBA is to present EACH list with its appropriate DOH info. We are three groups merging, with two of them represented by USAPA. USAPA has represented the West Class for over 5 years. Why would that change now? We still have no JCBA East West, yet USAPA is still the bargaining agent.

M/B takes over from there.

You truly are nuts Greeter Joe if you think the APA is going to settle your seniority problem for you. Seriously, this is a comedy act you're just doing on here, right?

So the latest pipe dream is MB will retroactively be applied to a transaction completed before it was law. LOL!!! Rrrriiiiiigggghhht. The MOU says nothing about MB and the East/West. A point that will be made crystal clear to Silver. Funny, only USCABA thinks that this doesent need to be resolved before the POR. So by extrapolation, of all the interested parties....except USCABA, DON'T BELIEVE MB CAN BE APPLIED to the East/West either. Why is USCABA always alone?

If the parties to the TA desired to negotiate a way to have a process consistent with MB, how would they go about securing it?

Seniority problem, what seniority problem? I've been DOH since day one, how about you? So far, no problem. Who's on first? What's on second, I don't knows on third! Sounds like three way to me. The APA isn't tasked with or going to "solve" the lineup, that's why we ratified a new process, with a new "snapshot" for a new airline world order, largest in the world, containing a path to the first "industry standard" contract for both the East and the West. Sounds like a LUP to me.

Check your contract MARK, no EAST pilots in it! TOAST ! NO JCBA NO LIST! LIKE means what in the legal community ? Except for a polygraph! It does not lie!

To the west pilot that wouldn't speak to us in ATL the other day, I just want to let you know that it really crushed us. It has troubled me ever since, that's why I'm not asleep right now, it's keeping me awake.

I'm jealous, the closest I got to a 727, was riding on the jumpseat of a United 727 to SFO. I did get the chance to fly the early 737s when I first got on at AWA, that was fun.

I think Claxon may already be nuts, hard to tell.

I also think when this is all said and done we are all going to be better off, east, west, and AA. No matter how the cards fall.

Bean

Hired at shuttle in 89
Flew back seat in the 727
Learned from some of the best,
Furloughed, flew non sked 727 FO and then 727 CAPT.
Now westies want to deny me the attrition, I have been waiting for.
bean wants to jump in front of me even though, I'm sure I have 10 years on him in age,
What a crock of ####

I hesitate to post on this thread, things have a way of spiraling into insults and flame wars.

But would like to draw a parallel to the Pan Am / National merger; while over thirty years ago, it was similar to the US/HP merger. Pan Am had a great many pilots on furlough, the Sun King airline had been expanding and had a relatively junior pilot corps. NA had captains who were hired after Clipper Skippers on furlough. DOH was considered unfair to the NA pilots; I must confess that I don't know the details , but IIRC that ALPA came up with some sort of slotting scheme that few were completely happy with, but did go into effect without too much nastiness. Of course, there was no internet back then, just graffiti in the loos of the crew rooms. Not nearly as effective! :)

There is a bit discussion of the issue in Robert Gandt's Skygods (which an excellent read and finally back in print). I'll try to dig up my copy.

Surely, someone will correct me if I am wrong.
