I too was briefed on Friday by my AGC and given the green light to share the information with the members. The news spread like wildfire and was very well received.Ok , I now have the Green light to discuss what our AGC Pat Rez shared with us This afternoon in the break rooms ...
First I don't want to get anyone's hopes up ..He reported to us that the talks are moving slowly ... There are going to be more talks scheduled for May and June ..
HOWEVER , there was a VERY important positive development that I personally am thrilled to share with all of you . As it was told to me , every April the company calculates flight numbers and does the break down of how many flights go in and out of our stations ..If a set amount of flights are not reached they have the ability via our current contract to outsource the station ...
Our negotiating committee and the company came to a LOA ( letter of agreement ) that will ensure that stations that get at least 7 flights a week will not be outsourced for the next year .. ( I think that's the jist of it , I DO have a bad memory )
So talks are still ongoing ... but at least stations that might have been outsourced are now protected .
EDIT: I want to add that I think that's an incredible act of good faith on behalf of the company , and I do appreciate that .
The company does an annual review in April each year where they go back one year to the previous April. They calculate which stations are below the threshold of mainline departures and are therefore subject to outsourcing as defined by the language in the CBA. When the company met with the IAM this week in DC they informed the union this year's review had been completed. The company informed the union that several stations were below the threshold and that two were going to be outsourced in the near future. The vendors were already in place.
The LOA reached by the IAM with the company saved countless jobs in the near term. The LOA represents a huge first step in protecting the current Fleet Service work. Although the agreement is only until April of 2014 it effectively saved the members' jobs in at least two, if not more, of the several stations in the coming months.
Now the NC has time to focus on improvements to wage, benefits, seniority protection and cleaning up the lousy scope language in our current CBA. Language that allows the company to eliminate IAM work and jobs every April.
The LOA is truly a step in the right direction. A job well done by General VP Sito Pantoja, DL 141 President Rich Delaney and our NC.
