April/May 2013 IAM Fleet Discussions

Ok , I now have the Green light to discuss what our AGC Pat Rez shared with us This afternoon in the break rooms ...

First I don't want to get anyone's hopes up ..He reported to us that the talks are moving slowly ... There are going to be more talks scheduled for May and June ..

HOWEVER , there was a VERY important positive development that I personally am thrilled to share with all of you . As it was told to me , every April the company calculates flight numbers and does the break down of how many flights go in and out of our stations ..If a set amount of flights are not reached they have the ability via our current contract to outsource the station ...

Our negotiating committee and the company came to a LOA ( letter of agreement ) that will ensure that stations that get at least 7 flights a week will not be outsourced for the next year .. ( I think that's the jist of it , I DO have a bad memory )

So talks are still ongoing ... but at least stations that might have been outsourced are now protected .

EDIT: I want to add that I think that's an incredible act of good faith on behalf of the company , and I do appreciate that .
I too was briefed on Friday by my AGC and given the green light to share the information with the members. The news spread like wildfire and was very well received.
The company does an annual review in April each year where they go back one year to the previous April. They calculate which stations are below the threshold of mainline departures and are therefore subject to outsourcing as defined by the language in the CBA. When the company met with the IAM this week in DC they informed the union this year's review had been completed. The company informed the union that several stations were below the threshold and that two were going to be outsourced in the near future. The vendors were already in place.
The LOA reached by the IAM with the company saved countless jobs in the near term. The LOA represents a huge first step in protecting the current Fleet Service work. Although the agreement is only until April of 2014 it effectively saved the members' jobs in at least two, if not more, of the several stations in the coming months.
Now the NC has time to focus on improvements to wage, benefits, seniority protection and cleaning up the lousy scope language in our current CBA. Language that allows the company to eliminate IAM work and jobs every April.
The LOA is truly a step in the right direction. A job well done by General VP Sito Pantoja, DL 141 President Rich Delaney and our NC.

id be very curious to know what 2 stations fell below the threshold??? and further more what vendors would be taking their place and what other stations were below the threshold

I'm sorry, but I don't consider this monumental. It certianly is for the affected stations, but it's two stations FOR ONE YEAR. All that means is that the Company has plans. What those plans are, we don't know, but they've got them. You have to remember, this company doensn't give ANYTHIGN without an ulterior motive.

I'm happy that these two stations will be around for another year, but the company is up to something.

Going on 3 yrs. and LCC throws US some CRUMS with LOA for 2 Line Stations ? Let's HOPE ! THAT's NOT ALL THERE IS ! Solidarity,Contracts ,Hire Date for ALL .

I'll throw one out there... RNO... I think there are only 2 Mainline and 2 Express flights per day out of PHX. That will probably change alittle with the AA merger, but I never understood why it has kept US FSA for this many years already. Only reason I know US FSAs handle was the PT position which sat unfilled on the Company's employment website.

You sure it isn't 7 mainline flights a day? That's plausible as that's 49 mainline flights a week, which is closer to the 56 mainline flights which is the standard some stations are already using. One mainline flight a day to hire 4 hours of PT US FSAs would be difficult for me seeing the Tempe Boys agreeing to such an arrangement.

The new language is 7 main line flights per week. This new language was adopted for only the cities that fell below the numbers and could be contracted out as of April 5th. All other cities would still be above the number and therefore protected until they run the numbers again next April 5th.

I agree jester i did not know how many rno flights we have but i knew it was not much i wonder about pdx too or smf

I was wondering the same thing freedom i think may be it would be 49 a week vs 7 a week which would be below the 56 currently in place

thanks cb hope for everyone's sake that come next aprl 5 that not only will we have a new deal but a deal that protects what we have now and enhanced scope language protects for fsa stations etc better wages benes etc

cb any idea as to the next round of talks and what it would be about

not to rain on your parade but have you actually read the full loa yet? Thus far delaney has signed loa over the past five years claiming success but afterwards were shown as giving the airlines more than he got. Considering the need for congressional blessings i didnt expect any stations would be contracted out anyways, and certainly the one year protection isnt much to write home about after a few years of talks. Lets hope that delaney and the nc didnt give the company anything. Hopefully we this doesnt mean we are now muzzled from filing for a release and that the eboard moves forward with sancioned picketing and plenty of it.Regards

Congressional blessings?

Congress doesnt approve airline mergers, that would be the DOJ and DOT.

Exactly.

The fact that this is touted as a sort of "good news story," or "victory," just shows how effectively capital is managing labor's expectations...

or the company basically will come up with an offer of say lets get rid of all stations but the hubs... similar to the ua but i would hope that wont be the case

if history is any indicator of our eboard then we should assume that the itsy crumb given after several years will likely mean that our negotiation team has agreed to cooperate with management in some capacity unlike iam 142. Concerned indeed especially since not even a penny gained. regards,

But this is good news , two of our stations are now safe from out sourcing for at least a year . Yes there's still work to do on getting a new contract , but a new contract doesn't do our people any good if they aren't around for it .
