APFA Constitutional Amendments

No......I am saying, if you don't want them to vote fine ....I am on board for that. But what is sounds like they want to do is 1) not let them vote, and 2) If /when they come back they have to pay dues for the whole time they were out. THAT IS NOT RIGHT.

Butch.

I belive a flyer will be mailed out soon with all the details. I disscused this with my Mom last time around and I would like to have the ability to vote, then she brought up the fact about someone having a impact on my work rules who may never work under them. Ok, Mom you have a good point, so I thought I paid 1/2 months dues and I'd pay it for I have a investment here (18yrs at that time-21yrs on the 27th)at AA and I'm not the only one, Anyway I'd like a say in my-our future, but not if it will bring out a brun the house down vote.

Maybe the best thing would of been Not on the property no vote, clean, clear and simple

I agree with you. I think the APFA was afraid to ban furloughs from voting because of possible disenfranchisement lawsuits. I've heard they ran this idea before the DOL before voting on it and it was okayed because it brought the rules in line with other types of leaves without taking away their vote completely.

It's really not the vote or not vote thing that bothers me about this. It is the fact that while on furlough you are accruing a bill.....that will be due when you come back to work....back dues...will have to be paid before you can vote.

To me there is not one resolution that makes any sense to me at all. They do nothing at all for the membership. Everyone of those resolutions involve the APFA leadership. Not the membership.

How about this resolution ....RESOLUTION #13......we will have a vote of confidence like they do in England and we will see how happy the members are with their current leadership.

Butch

There is no such proposal by the APFA. The proposal is only about who can and can not vote on union election. The current APFA constitution alllow furlough flight attendants the right to vote. The proposal is to change that rule that if you want to be able to vote while on furlough you must be paying union dues.
There is no such proposal out there for furlough flight attendants to accrue a bill while on furlough.
The proposol is solely on who can and can not vote.

Have you received your ballot? I'm hearing varying reports of what it says and was waiting to see it before fully commenting on that issue if it is, indeed, in there. I've heard it is and am awaiting proof.

A call was placed to the union today and we were told that you will _not_ accrue a bill when you return from furlough if you choose not to pay dues while you are on furlough. However, during that time, if you want to vote on anything union related, you have to be a dues current member. Regardless, I'm voting no on that as well as "no" on dues increase. Furloughed members have been through enough, there is no need to punish them any further. i did not choose to be on this "involuntary" leave, and I'm only collecting 245 a week. I cannot afford the dues while on any type of involuntary status. I'm vastly disapointed in APFA. I was on another fa chatboard for AA fas where the moderator posted pictures of one APFA convention that was held in a resort. How can they ask for dues increase at a time when the bottom half of the seniority list is jobless or forced to be on a leave, and they hold conventions and meetings in expensive hotels and resorts.

These union officers don't know the first thing about being furloughed or forced to take a leave, and they have the audacity to come up with these so called changes and resolutions.

Byron, the real question is "Will I have to pay all back dues before I can EVER vote again?" I thought you had survived the cut. I'm so sorry to see you're on the street. Will you be going back in Dec?

It looks to me like AA has the F/A's right where they want them. Here today, laid off tomorrow, then bring back for a day. The great F/A union at AA has turned the job into a partime job for the bottom 1/4 at least.

Byron and all original AA will be back in December, along with the top 26 TWA.

Hi Mark
Yes, I'm on rsv on Dec 2nd. I'm really hoping that PEK will stem the further erosion of jobs, but I'm prepared for the worst case scenario. Like Jim said, with the loss of furlough pay, the bottom half are seasonal workers. Whatever your opinion is on these resolutions, please vote.

Yes, seasonal workers. January will be interesting. And by taking the vote away unless you pay dues, less votes to be cast against Resolution 8. Great way to disenfranchise the junior. And to think JW gave away furlough pay for no credit. just gave it as a gift to AA.

Bill, all current f/as both active and furloughed will be able to vote on the resolutions. What the APFA is worried about is a strike vote. Selective voting and selective representation. Many seem to think there are not contratual provisions that potentially affect those furloughed and at risk of being furloughed.

If it is APFA I wouldn;t bet on provisions for the junior....

Maybe you see it as a gift but # 1 , you were not there so how can you make that statement and #2 , I'm sure JW was givin options on what to give up and what to keep. Afterall he brought us the best contract in AA history so I think he knows his stuff.
