Another School Massacre

Yep the non-military citizens with assault weapons have saved democracy all over the world, right?

We could save billions of dollars and eliminate the armed forces.

Last time I checked the US had a military led by George Washington and others who defeated the british.

You think you are going to go up against the US armed forces with a few hand guns and semi-autos? Should the armed forces turn on the civilians, I do not think we have much of a chance. Feel free to take a run at them, I'm heading out of the country.

You, as an arm chair Constitutional expert are failing to recognize that the armed forces take an oath to support and defend the COTUS first and foremost. If the republic was coming apart to that point, I think there would be ample support from within the armed forces.

NOw...if the Army doesn't feel that the second amendment is being threatened, but the Marines do, does that mean we have the Marines fighting the Army?

You think the military will start to kill US citizens? Oath or not, I'm not so sure they will kill their own families and friends.

Recent history suggests that it is possible for an insurgency to successfully resist. Prior to US involvement the Afghan rebels and their single shot Royal Enfield rifles were doing a decent job against the Russians. Iraq or Afghanistan are not "subdued" as yet and neither is Libya.

The point of a well armed populace is to give the Government & Military pause before we get to shots fired in anger. NOT to start a civil war.

The US sent those rebels weapons, they even had Stinger Missiles.

The CIA became the grand coordinator: purchasing or arranging the manufacture of Soviet-style weapons from Egypt, China, Poland, Israel and elsewhere, or supplying their own; arranging for military training by Americans, Egyptians, Chinese and Iranians; hitting up Middle-Eastern countries for donations, notably Saudi Arabia which gave many hundreds of millions of dollars in aid each year, totaling probably more than a billion; pressuring and bribing Pakistan-with whom recent American relations had been very poor-to rent out its country as a military staging area and sanctuary; putting the Pakistani Director of Military Operations, Brigadier Mian Mohammad Afzal, onto the CIA payroll to ensure Pakistani cooperation.

Proves you don't know what the real military is about. A friend was in special forces in Vietnam, what he had to do, don't bet the farm that they won't.

The Soviets invaded in December of 79, six months prior the CIA started their assistance to the Mujahadeen.

Question: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs ["From the Shadows"], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?
Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.

Gee so that was during the Cold War Chronicles, when the US and the Soviets went tit-for-tat against each other. You must remember when the US, er, ah, CIA gave weapons to Israel while the Soviets gave weapons to the Palestinians back then? It was the talk in Europe back then.

You're correct, however they didn't get stingers right away The U.S.-built Stinger antiaircraft missile, supplied to the mujahideen in very large numbers beginning in 1986.

So from 1979 to 1986 with the exception of financial and CIA assistance the Afghan rebels went head to head with the Red Army.
