You need to go to the NMB ruling and see how Amfa attempts to disallow fellow Union Members! See how they attempt to twist the facts and how the NMB stays the course of established guidelines!

Adding over two thousand ( thats 2,000 for you CIO ) names that are outside what common sense states what the mechanic craft and class should be, is not twisting the facts?

2000 names? If you read the decision, It clearly shows to ineptness of Amfa!

I also understand this round of layoffs currently going on at United (Amfa) mechanics will be in the neighborhood of 700!

Strike Possibility Increases as Independence Air Mechanics Ask for Release from Stalled Mediation

LACONIA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2004--The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) today said that following Independence Air's refusal to present a meaningful comprehensive economic proposal at the bargaining table, AMFA has requested a release from the National Mediation Board's (NMB) Mediation Services, seriously increasing the possibility of a strike.

"The Company has consistently refused to present a comprehensive economic proposal and has completely ignored multiple good-faith AMFA proposals put forward since August 17," said AMFA Region III Director Kevin Wildermuth. "You can't have effective negotiations if only one party is willing to negotiate."

Wildermuth said on Wednesday, September 22, the Company presented a piece-meal proposal on only a few issues and stated that they could not agree to economics until the number of issues was reduced. Yet on March 10, 2004, the Company said they "didn't want to negotiate in the blind" and would not agree to these very same issues until economic costs were established. "In light of the Company's 180-degree flip-flop, it is strikingly obvious that their latest proposal was just another stalling tactic to delay making the economic proposal needed to move this process forward. AMFA believes it is high time for both parties to deal with the comprehensive package."

"After more than two years of negotiations and patiently enduring numerous delays, we believe this process should be moved to completion, and accordingly, we had no responsible alternative but to ask for a release from the mediation process," said Wildermuth. AMFA held informational meetings at Independence Air's three largest maintenance stations and found overwhelming membership support for the release request, which, if granted, automatically initiates a 30-day countdown to a strike.

Can someone tell me why the IAM was able to get an agreement for the ramp with pay increases and AMFA can't get a raise for the mechanics? What's up with the company? We were told that with AMFA none of the other groups would be able to ride our coat tails. Now they have an agreement and we have nothing, may even lose jobs to boot! I want someone on the ramp to tell me how to get an IAM card!

It's time for a change of representation at Northwest Airline. My fellow Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, Cleaners and Custodians, we've given AMFA a "chance". That's what they wanted. In my opinion, they've failed us miserably. They negotiated a contract that they called "Industry Leading" only for us to find out that they couldn't enforce the language and it's cost us an entire Maintenance facility in ATL and half of the main base in MSP. I hear the rumblings in the hangers......"Anybody but AMFA". I agree. Let's get it started. I call on the current District 149 Officers to start an organizing drive immediately. We can't afford to wait until AMFA gets into negotiations. We cant afford to let AMFA give anything else away. Please, restart the card drive and don't worry about negotiations, the membership agrees we're better off not letting AMFA negotiate for us again.

Amfa has negotiations going on at several Airlines and can't even negotiate one! Have you noticed they Quote a non elected official in the articles and recently have sent out fliers at AA from a non elected official of Amfa! It seems to me the Amfa wannabes are advocating the same-thing they are complaining the TWU is doing?

That is because you are used to seeing the TWU negotiate concessionary contracts rather than contracts that benefit the membership. Concessions are easier to negotiate, just look at what the TWU at AA has done over the past 21 years.

And don't even talk about non-elected union officials.

Dude lets get rid of our Delle. Its time for a real Union. There's a card drive going on for the Teamster's. The company doesn't want the Teamster's on the property, Gee I wonder why?? Just ask around, there's cards all over. Just pick one up and mail it in. Its time for scAMFA to go.

The Downward Spiral Continues!

1aa are we not in the top 30% in wages in the Industry? Please tell us how you would handle negotiations? Go ahead and show us examples at Alaska-Horizon-NWA- etc.

AA is the #1 airline, but 30% make more than we do. And you think that is good?

The employees helped make AA #1, shouldnt they expect to be paid like #1?

We may be in the top 30% in wages, but thanks to the TWU, we are in the top 1% in concessions!

Maybe the AMFA could appease the company on they're knees and beg them to keep the base open with concessions, and OSM's. They need a union that will give anything the company wants.

Then cio would be happy.
