Aircraft maint issues

That update just told me that this McGrady character is way out of touch with the companies NC. His first prediction that we would have something to vote on last time said it all. Then he comes out and states we will have a T/A to vote on again. Still nothing. And this guy is VP of Labor Relations? Wow. If he is so anxious why isn't he more involved? Making the decisions? Making the changes NEEDED to get a T/A? It looks to me as this guy doesn't have a clue of what's going on in negotiations, or, someone is telling him a bunch of BS and making him look like a fool when he sends out emails claiming agreements and T/A's will be reached. Wonder what he will predict next time we meet??? Got carried away there this info should be in our airline thread. Another rumor surfacing once again is that SWA is interested in 2 other airlines for purchase so maybe, just maybe the company is ready to settle soon to get through that.
Yes but when I read our update there is nothing as a member I can use to know . They say the company is passing concessions to the table. I would like to know what concessions they are. I wish your the best on your contract at least you have AMFA and not the twu

Coney you really do have serious comprehension issues. I'm not playing the who has the better Sports team game. If we go by the way some of you guys think we're playing the tit for tat, back and forth game ad nauseous.

If I thought like you I'd have to say that every one of them from triple A to triple Z sucked big donkey balls the last decade or more. All your Acronyms stunk. I'm not playing the BS game who's got the cooler Union shirt.

NEXT?

And BTW Coney. It's been 5 years at SWA. Total BS again with any excuses. If no other Union can get a pass without the letters A.M.F.A. Stop blowing smoke.

Yes 5 years all the more reason they need to hold out for full retro these airlines need to pay for dragging out these contracts but they know they will wear down the membership who has essentially had a 5 year pay freeze and most will jump at the first shiny object the company offers. But it's easy for me to say I am not in their shoes. Again thank you RLA and NMB for allowing the airlines to screw over employees for years on end.

I have always liked AMFA's updates. Very informative and to the point. I really never did like the type of updates you guys get from the asso. They pretty much only say that they T/A'd on this and that but never give the details of what was changed or frozen as is. It just starts the rumor mill running wild and confusion. Thx for your wishes, but to be honest I don't see anything happening anytime this year and maybe longer. I also wish you guys good luck on yours.

SWAMT, read the AMFA update. It seems the out-of-touch SWA management wants to implement concessions, they will never match the historic sellout done by the TWu in 2003, CEO Kelly and Parker unfortunately forget this is 2017 not 2001 (especially when it comes to their compensation, Parker won the lottery since leaving UsukAir/America Worst and makes about double what Kelly gets time I checked). Not to mention the lavish expenditures that this bottom feeder management has rewarded for themselves, like blowing a billion and change on the new "Parker Place" Taj Mahal headquarters. I envision a blue lagoon pool with swim up (fully stocked) bar for the Parker Place Penthouse, no expense spared. It might keep that 4th DUI from looming large, swimming around instead of driving around after a long day of micro management.

I understand you SWA guys get paid triple time and then get paid rest for the next shift worked? That would be quite a payday, after 14 years of this Bankruptcy TWu sellout, mere double time seems like a money tree on Pluto. it's been so long.

Aside from the compensation, SWA contract is far and away superior to anything from the 3 Industrial union failures in this industry. The 5 years is a long time to wait, but it will be worth it in the end. Will never be matched industry wide.

Best of luck and stay strong.

Thx Hackman, It's time we all get what we deserve in these times of record profits. Yes SWA is looking for huge concessions from us while all this time only asked for minor changes with the Pilots and F/A's. Looks like were in it for the long run from that last offer made by the company. I expect you guys to be done before us. Good luck to you and all...

Another holiday will soon be here with management have a good laugh at our expense. While the guys at LUS will get double time, the company will save big money on the LAA AMT's getting only time and a half. While I can never begrudge the guys at LUS getting all that they can, it is a bitter pill to swallow. This company has no intent to give us contract any time soon. Our contract dose not end until later in 2018 and they will drag their feet make excuses and laugh all the way to the bank. Our problem is we have brothers and sisters that will jump over each other to gobble up as much OT as they can then complain about our lack of a contract. We need to be a group that works together to ensure the company comes to the table with a resolve to offer a contract that keeps us working for not against them.

No surprise here. The solution is to get out of the association. Unfortunately we have too many lazy a$$ members who will not motivate themselves by wondering when enough is enough. The older guys are waiting for a early out package. Tulsa is only worried about Tulsa. IAM is only looking out for themselves and to protect the IAMPF.
The TWU is doing the same. In the background lurking is the AFL-CIO making sure the dues keep flowing. There is a bigger picture here and we are not in it.

Wholly Crap. WoW. You are SPOT ON. I thought I was the only mechanic to see the light. I hope all the LUS/LAA mechanics WAKE UP. We are DOOMED if WE DONT. This contract is way more complicated than the UAL/CAL contract. It took them 5 years. It will take us 10 years. Were better off getting off our asses and voting in a different union and starting from scratch.

Just a technicality but our contract is not up in 2018. It becomes amendable which means they can drag this out indefinitely. Theoretically we could have to wait until 2020 for a contract. The Railway Labor Act protects the company and screws our ears off.

Just curious..... Are you worried about Tulsa? I would think not.

I'm worried about the diversity the association created. That's what's keeping the unity away. Tulsa is a problem from the older guys who are waiting to retire and hope to make it without being displaced or hit the streets.
If I worked in Tulsa most of my career and had 5 years or so to retirement I would vote yes to any contract that would keep me in Tulsa in the short term. Tulsa is shrinking and so is the work force. It's a matter of time for many ole timers if they can make it to retirement before the layoffs. The union created this division many years ago and the association multiplied it by at least two.

Understandable that you would think that way but I disagree. I am not willing to vote yes on anything that doesn't meet my expectations. I do care about Tulsa but I care about the line too. I am one of those who feel that we should all have each other's backs. Tulsa has changed in that many are on 7 day coverage and it takes about 28 or 29 years to get days with weekends off now. So we are much like the line these days. Our CEO wants to outsource our work and they will do what they want no matter what our contract says. I will not sell out anyone to get a cookie from AA. I will do my best to convince others not to either. We'll see but since the line now outnumbers Tulsa I would have to wonder when we'll stop being blamed for everything. Line has the numbers now and Tulsa will never be able to influence a vote again. If anything passes it will be the line that carries the vote.

Agree on the 7 day coverage but Tulsa is still much more affordable than most if not all line stations. I'll take 7 day coverage over being displaced to a line station with a high cost of living. Bottom line is we have to make personal decisions that best fits our family needs.

Very good post, OldGuy. And undoubtedly we will not have to hear ever again, the response "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, JUST MOVE TO TULSA! But even though the Line has the numbers, there will always be divisions. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it was MIA and ORD who voted AGAINST GEO pay in the rejected contract which lead the current POS BK contract we find ourselves under now? I believe they were unhappy because their GEO rate was not as much as the higher cost NY and CA stations?
I guess some people do not grasp the concept of GEO pay.

I was told DFW also voted against it because they found out that DFW was not considered a high cost of living area. GEO pay is not a problem with Tulsa people.
