Aircraft maint issues

Before the huge raises last year this is what existed.

Fleet topped out in 9 years
AMT topped out in 5 years

That 4 year difference is an awful lot of money old guy.

Oh and currently you make $40,000 (FORTY THOUSAND!!!!!!!) more per year BASE TOS than I do.

Now again if somehow our lowly little unedumacated Baggage Monkey Group is ripping you off??!!!!???? Well how in the WORLD do you account for the oversight that WE let you get away with all that dough?

Like I said the other day. If we’re ripping you off somehow we REALLY SUCK at our jobs man.

It comes to this weeezz, all bag handlers for their skill set, now some guys have college educations to move up through the ranks, and some don't. For those that do not $40 to 60k is good money. With a mechanic we may make $100k, but if the feds take our license , there goes our job. When I started as an A&P for Southwest; we used to do the de icing, push backs, and fueling , plus working on the aircraft. Old guy can back me on this. When management takes this work from mechanics and gives it, to ramp. It builds your ranks, and shrinks ours.

And yet through the passage of time it’s eventually accepted that the loss of certain jobs was due to others and not the fact that your own ranks were the ones to often times vote away certain jobs for money. Money, money, money.

And I’m always hearing this catchphrase of the Feds coming in and taking away the Mechanics license but how many times in your career has that occurred? And after a very thorough investigation I’m sure if the NTSB took away a Mechanics liscence and maybe even put him in Prison perhaps it was justified.

BTW Never faulted any of you for making over 100K. More power to you. Hope you make over 200k soon.

Funny thing about this is that the TWU never considered this outsourcing since fellow union members got the work. As long mechanics don’t lose work to foreign countries or 3rd party vendors the TWU is perfectly happy with taking mechanics jobs and Shifting them over to fleet.

In my 28 years we had ONE case of two mechanics who license were taken by the Feds, the IAM fought it and won their licenses back.

As much as I hate to say it, our line mechanics voted all 3 items listed above to go away. I blame nobody but the mechanics that all voted yes for that contract.

This makes no sense economically that any Local or the International would want to shift any work away from you if it’s going to shrink your ranks.

You know how the dues structure works in the TWU so you also know they make more money from you then from me.

As far as work like let’s say deicing being shifted from your group way back when. Your group voted for that for money and buyouts from what I understand.

And back then they also didn’t have all these companies that sprang up trying to take that work completely out of the Airlines hands for even cheaper and cheaper.

I voted no on that deal, never give your work away, oh well.

First of all you are missing the point. The TWU never thinks of “shifting” work to other TWU work groups as OUTSOURCING. They only think of outsourcing UNLESS they represent those doing the work.
Maybe they will seek an election for the SA employees.

Secondly, you weren’t around in 1983 for the “yellow dog” contract where the union agreed to allow the mechanics to be force fed that contract!

No huge wage increases were gained because deiicing and pushbacks were shifted to fleet

TWU represents both Envoy and Swissport who are doing my former work on the Ramp right here in MIA. Am I comfortable with this? No. Is it more complicated than my comfort though? Yes. Would WE be making what we’re making now if we weren’t stepping on the shoulders of others somewhere? No.

And you’re right I wasn’t around in 1983 at AA. 1983 though was 34 (THIRTY FOUR) years ago.

TWU is not an Artificial Intelligence Computer that passes down its magnetic ink and has a nefarious Matrix agenda to transfer us all into Agent Smiths for the last 34 years.

Will your Grandchildren one day in 2083 be talking about what the “TWU” did 100 years ago?

Guys let’s stop using the term “The TWU” or “The IAM” or “The AMFA” from now on.

From now on why don’t we try wording it this way

John Samuelsen
Robert Martinez
Brett Oestreich

Instead of using “The Acronyms”

So no one is allowed to reference the past because WeAAsles says so. If you truly understood why we mechanics feel as we do, it is because of the past. You are quick to dismiss mechanics when we complain and we get knocked down by you and others. Mechanics have lost more ground work since deregulation than any other work group. But it’s ok because it’s “economics”.
And you are right. So therefore I fully believe support outsourcing fleet service, automotive and plant maintenance.
After all it is “economics!”

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Ok but you just admitted at least one other area all of that comes from, Deregulation. UAL AMT’s have changed Unions too many times to count now and I don’t think any of that completely solved their problems? Am I wrong?

As far as complaining what good has that done any of you? You blame the Unions and freakin mostly uneducated Rampers instead of ever looking in the mirror at yourselves. Do you guys have ANY responsibilities for things that happened in the past at all, whatsoever? ANY fault?

You just saw this huge campaign by “John Samuelsen” (And MANY others) to try to raise awareness for your cause. Will it help at all? Maybe not? But at least people are trying which is way more than people who do nothing but complain all the time ever do.

And if sometimes maybe too many times I’m a mean SOB I’m sorry. But the World is going to be a lot harder on all of you than I could ever be. And I am your friend and do give a chit about you all.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your families as well.
