Aircraft maint issues

There’s a shortage in all areas of skilled trades within the Airline industry and that’s due to the last economic downturn where people didn’t think Airlines were a viable option.

Aircraft Mechanics are though an easier group to bring in as needed once the job is known to be enticing again. If needed Airlines can open their own schools or have apprenticeship programs if the outside market isn’t covering the need. Not the same for Pilots who are much more in demand.

Josh did you not read the BLS stats for growth for this career field choice? I suggest you peruse as I have shared here in the past.

BLS = Objective, unemotional cold hard facts.

And as you have agreed it’s unlikely the marketplace at large (outside of the cloak of “protection” the TWU agreement and seniority roster provides) wouldn’t recognize your value add at the level AA does. AMTs not so much, they have a tangible skill that is in demand.

I’m sure AA would prefer to pay me far less than they currently do and still maintain the quality I provide to them.

Again I posted a picture of that BLS for you. Average job prospects at 5%. I wouldn’t qualify that as over the top in demand myself. But their median has gone up now to 60K per year which I’m happy to see.

And yes I very much appreciate having a premium CBA to work under, thank you.

Why didn’t they want? From personal experience I think you know that the Company Representatives don’t just walk in with a blank check and say “Here you fill in the amount you want” No Union (Yours included obviously) gets to have life that easily put on the plate for them.

And yes honestly I also heard our Negotiators were offered the SWA Contract and were told by Harry Lombardo to pound sand.

They were also told just take one Contract or the other and we’ll give you the money. (Also told to pound sand)

Many of these Senior old birds on here may have jumped on it I suspect. Too bad.
I guarantee Wezz whenever we get a new contract at SWA, there will be over 200 job openings for mechanics, because the old guys will say yes, take the money and run, especially when they have well over 1, 000,000 in their 401ks and profit sharing! :)

Well if I were an old fart with $1 Mil in my 401k, maybe a little retiree medical juice and good SS why would I wait for a new contract?

Do you think (I don’t) your Union is going to sell out the future to get a buyout package to the old crows? Nah IMO. You guys didn’t come this far to sell out now.

That’s what training is for, you learn more with hands on than from a book.

We were all green at one time and can thank the generation before us for teaching us while working along side of them.

The 737 training that the Mechanics are getting at Tulsa, is Multiaircraft training without being qualified to work on a given fleet. It is my understanding that the company failed to comply with some requirements and decided to blanket all mechanics for all fleets.

Basically they AMFA recommended a no vote in 2009,-it passed. They have basically admitted in these road shows, because of the length of time, that whatever comes out, will more than likely pass. So they don't want to give up to much work rules, for money. Plus they want more backpay.

So the Leaders are deciding then to hold back on releasing something cause they don’t trust the Membership? And that doesn’t surprise me as far as ANY Union BTW. They’re all loaded up with greedy members who can’t see the forest through the trees and could care less if they burn it all down.

Example: “Full pay to the last day”

And AMFA shouldn’t give up ANY workrules. SWA is doing just fine and honestly there aren’t enough of you that anything you ask for is going to break the bank.

That arbitrary, subjective judgement made by American Airlines in spring 1995 plus the low wage low benefit Eulen and ATS employees that enable you living large. They’re on their feet all day at a line station WeAA at a hub get lots of downtime when not operating a KLoader.

No one wants a crap deal for cash, just like the American guys don't, so take your time and get it right.

I’m curious why are SWA mechanics making comments on AA forum?
Cause he is trying to sell AMFA as the best thing for us, meanwhile they have the highest percentage of outsourcing, they have been in Section 6 negotiations for over five years and no progress and their talks are on ice.

In 15 years they haven’t brought in any work except one line in exchange for foreign outsourcing, yet he will blame the IBT for it alll.

Also he is all over the Fleet thread too, there is something wrong with him.

Were told to f—k off.[/QUOTE]
Vortilon, I am hearing of some more hiring coming in 2018 too. SWA has been hiring a lot of X-AA'ers as of lately. As SWA no longer hires in large groups, they usually hire about 5-10 per month. Keep your eyes open for more in the 2018 and thru-out 2018. Good luck yo all of you that apply.

I posted some very positive news for the mechanics on future hiring and I get a "disagree" from Tom Talbert 1888. I noticed he also gives me "disagree" ratings on every single one of my postings, even the ones not addressed to him nor do they even deserve any kind of rating. Someone is on an agenda...
