AA, US Airways merger could lead to Tulsa expansion

From where would it cost $17,000 to ferry a flight to AFW?    The cost to ferry a flight from DFW to AFW wouldn't amount to even 10% of that.   

The cost of a loaf of bread is irrelevant.   Food is an insignificant percentage of the family budget for someone making $35/hr or more.   The real cost of living differences between NYC and TUL are in real estate, taxes and transportation.   Buying or renting a nice place in Tulsa would cost a small fraction of buying or renting a place to live in the NYC region.

Ahh, gotcha, and I agree.   I live in Los Angeles,  and the cost of living is really higher than the cheaper parts of the country.   It's unfortunate that the AA line mechanics (who tend to be in very expensive cities) and the AA overhaul mechanics (in Tulsa, Kansas City and Fort Worth) were never able to agree on an appropriate geo pay differential.   Yep, everybody's A&P is the same, but scheduled maintenance and line maintenance are two different services entirely.   If the line had been paid $8 or $10 more per hour (completely reasonable), and someone in TUL thought that was outrageous, it wouldn't be too difficult to set up a mechanism by which they could move to NYC or LAX or ORD to take advantage of the "high" pay there.
 

Besides, what AA was paying Uncle Ross per year, for that real-estate, was outrageous!

How much rent was AA paying for the AFW base?

Back to the title of this Post, I saw a job in the Internal careers the other day for a Plant Maint. Mechanic Carpenter in Tule. And a PMM Plumber on the External careers!
A friend of mine received his 541 to report to the carpenter shop. He'll be busy building new shops for the 37's coming in.

Maybe they need more shipping crates for Tulsa tooling going elsewhere!?!?

Yep, NYC, MIA, ORD, LAX, PHL, DCA are all high rent districts.
Underpaid airline employees can't afford to live there.
