Aa To Buy Ual Pacific-rumor

<_< Just a little trivia here! At one point in time there were only two U.S. carriers with these rights! You guessed it! TWA, and Pan American!

That was a carryover from after WWII. TW and PA had 2-engine fleets (and crew) based in and flying intra-continental Europe. It was routine to fly PA#00 NYC-Frankfurt and other airports and do a Change-of-Gauge connection to PA#00 on to Berlin or Athens or wherever.

UAL won't sell any of their east coast, Chicago, or San Fran hubs. If anything will be on the chopping block it will be the hub in Denver. They were not able to get out of their lease agreements here with the city. They have that under appeal, but it will probably still stand that they will have to pay Denver what is owed so far which is around 75M. They can just walk away from those leases and leave Denver high and dry.

<_< TWA flew these routes well into the sixties! In fact they had a fleet of 727's that did nothing but that! At one time, the TWA logo was the second most reconized American logo in Europe, second only to Coca-Cola!!!!Not that it matters now!!!!!!Like I said before, "Trivia!"

Actually, it was PAN AM which held the title of second most recognized American logo behind Coca-Cola. As much as TWA accomplished, it always was second to America's "chosen instrument," whenever the subject of an American Flag Carrier came up. No disrespect intended, just a statement of fact."

I'll back MCI Transplant on this one. I definitely recall hearing and reading that TWA was second only to Coke in name recognition in Europe. I can't recall the exact year or circumstances, but I'm convinced that it was true, at least for a period of time.

Again, despite Garfield's nonsense, there was no disrespect intended. I have always heard that Pan Am and its logo was the second most recognized American brand, behind Coca Cola...

Whatever is the case, it is sad to see two of America's pioneers disappear.

When I was but a child - I had a teacher that flew on TWA out of MCI. I remember it so well because she told us about TWA and how that it was the one company recognized (in other countries) more than anything except Coke. The reason I remember this so much is that she gave us all children's wings. I have never forgotten that.

But, I guess the millions of people that knew this - would only be opposed by the couple at American - that can't stand that TWA was such a well-known and wonderful airline during those days when American was small. I am sorry that Pan-Am and TWA are gone....but ALL AIRLINES HAVE THEIR DAY............AMERICAN will be known as a large airline.....but the day will come....

You must be younger than I thought. When I started as an FA in '72, we still used MKC.

My mistake. She actually said Kansas City - so when I think of Kansas City I automatically type MCI. However, it would have been MKC. I never worked out of MKC - and have never even been in that terminal.

However, I will lie and say - Yes - I am that young! LOL

<_< Well people, We can set here and talk Ol "Airline Stories", I worked for TWA for 30+ years, but that's over! It was one hellava ride! But now I work for a.a., I believe one of the hardest things an ex-TWAer can do, is except that! But, the real world out there has American painted al over it! So the quicker we all except that, and get on with our lifes, the better off we'll all be!!!!
