Question, is AA still doing overhauls on the MD80 fleet or are they being parked as they become due for overhaul?

IIRC, they'd started to wind down the overhaul lines, but they're still ongoing.

Depending on the lease terms, my guess is some of the leased aircraft will still require overhauls between now and 2017. Best thing to do with the owned aircraft would be to fly them up until the point they're almost timed out.

Base Planning sheet shows 4 in the docks right now. 2 going thru heavy check, 1 IMC, and 1 SV K1912.

(not sure what SV K1912 is)

Frugal  they can have them all they want!!!   :)     Since we are working both AA and US at my station  I look at the 738 as a hell of an improvement over the MD80 any day from a ramper perspective  :)

Pass.

I'll take any 'Busses you want to get rid of, though...

the good news is that your employer manages to keep everything running longer which means all of the fleet types you are looking at today will likely be there when you retire.... unless you just started. :)

there is truth to the joke that a DC9 series jet will bring the crew back from the desert that ferried the last 737s and 320s

kev I agree with ya bro  Ill take a bus over the 73 anyday as well   but sometimes in our situation the bus be late and having to work aa side id take the 738 over the md80 any day

Its just too bad AA did not re-engine the MD80's when they looked into it, the JT8-217/219 is
just a bigger and less reliable version of the 737-100/200 engine.

Any mention of when they will be introduced into service at DL?
Fwiw I am sure some more will end up at DL for parts. I think we have gotten 20 or so of them.

Does the AA fleet have any with 219s or are they all 209/217s?

Agreed. So happy they moved the 320 c-checks to ATL and the T-tails out.
