AA fires WWII Vet

<_< -------VF-191, an F-8E squadron, onboard the USS Bonn Homme Richard, CVA-31. We flew Sorties against targets in North Viet Nam, and served for a time on a Bingo Crew of four F-8's out of Bien Hoa, South Viet Nam.----- And you Sir?

And thank you very much for your service... What's your opinion of DADT? ;)

<_< ------Frank, I take it your some sort of "expert" on the Viet Nam era? You served did you? Or are you just giving us your opinon? I served from 1962-1966, and am a Viet Nam vet. I spent three of my four years outside U.S. territory, either supporting the war effort, or being dirrectly involved in it, and never ran into any of the types you suggest! ------ But maybe that's just me!? ;)
I don't claim to be an expert, but I do claim to be able to read DOD reports and personal accounts that were published 8-10 years (perhaps longer - don't remember) ago.

Rule 32 and political correctness is killing this Airline and Country. I agree that deragatory language or insults should not be used in the workplace against co-workers but RULE 32 has destroyed AA. AA and its lawyers have created a work atmosphere to have a bunch of mindless robots who are afraid to interact with one another because you might say the wrong thing.

<_< -------- DOD reports?------- Written by the same beaurocrats, and bean counters, that have screw up this country today?---- The same ones that were pushing pencles in Washington while our guys in Nam were getting killed!!!? -------- Yea! Great Guy!!! ------- Liston, I don't claim there weren't degenerates fighting in Nam. There will always be some whenever there's a war! War is a nastey business! ------- But you made a blanket statement about the total quility of those that served, and frankley, I think that's short sighted, and offensive! ------ But don't worry Frank! I'm not going to run to my shop steward to report a Artical 32 violation!!!

Since we were both Navy and my comments were re: the Army's lack of standards ... It seems that no matter what is said, even if it's truth, someone will take offense at it.

Our choice (Navy), the Air Force, the Coasties and Uncle Sam's Misguided Children were much more picky re: who they let in but as was the case in Vietnam and other wars/"police actions" before it, the Army wanted bodies and wasn't too concerned where they came from nor what they were.

Hell no, that manner of person wasn't what made up the entire Army.

<_< -------Thank you Frank! You've just made my point!-------- "It seems that no matter what is said, even if it's the truth, someone will take offence at it." -------- Case in point! A FSC with 55 years with AA!!!

Off topic, but the standards haven't changed much. Today, 35 on your ASVABs will get you into the Army. You need at least a 50 for Navy, 55+ for Air Force & Marines, and a 60+ to get into the Coast Guard. With recruiting quotas being cut back, some areas with high numbers of potential recruits require even higher scores. My son scored a 86, so he had his pick of MOS's, but a 65 would have had him competing against five or six other folks for the single USMC slot in our area for HS grads.

I'm really not sure what your point was other than mistaking what I said as a blanket statement. If you're happy with "your point", no problem.

Since there was a draft going on at the time (sixties, early seventies), I believe the Army's ASVAB 'standard' was much lower than what you say it is now, that is, if there even WAS an Army standard at all. Having any kind of 'smarts' standard (such as the ASVAB) could easily have negated any benefit the Pentagon might have seen re: 'body inflow levels' by having a draft/lottery.

-------- Sorry about that Frank,-------- My point was that I feel you are correct in saying that no matter what you say, even if true, someone could takes offence. ------- And I feel this statement also holds true even for our 81 year old FSC!

And what do you think we were doing with those F-8's there on the "ship", and at Bien Hoa while you were sitting on your a$$, stabbing mice with that "boot knife"!? -------- Weapon of carry? A 45, and a m1 carb. I was there long before you. 64-65.
