AA and APFA expidite talks

You have your opinions and I have mine.

We'll see how valuable your girl is in the next 3 weeks...won't we?

BTW, how's that Decline/Resign campaign working out?

She's not "my girl." I support Galding because she had the best resume for the position. I think the Decline/Resign thing was dumb. I actually wrote FURP across the Resign side in big black letters.

Skymess/jimntx - B**cheness in 2012!

yes I was and still am a ward supporter. Hutto Blake and her cronies on the BOD originally wanted to forego our pay increases in January 2003 and to begin negotiations for concessions sooner. They hated the fact that Ward didn't want to speak about concessions until the evidence it was needed was complete. The argument for or against Ward still revolves around that decision. I was against concession discussions until they could prove they really needed them.

The BOD's resolutions for that time period speak for themselves. They decided to negotiate concessions at any cost, to do telephonic balloting, and to extend my balloting period. THAT wasn't Ward's doing. I DO have a grudge against Ward for telling us we would get a revote and then signing off on the RPA. That grudge is nothing compared to the one I hold for ALL members of the BOD and their base reps for their decision making and scare tactics that resulted in the RPA being shoved up our collective a**.

I wasn't against giving concessions if it would have helped us stay solvent and out of bankruptcy. My argument has always been, and still is, giving everything up that they asked for and giving EVERYTHING away without ANY snap back clauses.

We'll see if Glading proves to be worth what so many of you think she is. I don't have any faith so I can only be pleasantly surprised if she comes up with anything worth looking at.

And I suppose you still believe in the tooth fairy as well. Stop letting Ward off the hook. He had majority vote on the Board. Nothing happened without his sanction. Ward was nobody's puppet. He just got caught trying to play both ends against the middle. No backbone. No one should ever trust that one again. Ever. Did you happen to notice that NO union got snapbacks? Do you think they just forgot to ask? The answer was NO. And, in bankruptcy, management's bonuses would have been MUCH larger, just like at United.
I'll keep higher pay and the only group on the planet who can be trip removed and paid for VCs.
You would trade your VC pay for crew meals????? C'mon. Do the math. UA FAs got royally taken to the cleaners. Good for them that they have anything left. They certainly don't have a pension, no incentive pay ($14 per hour difference), and not near the flexibility AA FAs have. Still.
Maybe we can adopt thier policy of the senior FA declares what position they want to work, each and every leg? A single high time turn PVD would only cost you 4 days of vacation, too.

How kind of you to be pleasantly surprised. Why don't you try getting with your negotiating team and show them support. Neither Glading nor anyone on the team have the time or necessity to pleasantly surprise YOU. They are working for all FAs. All.

Oh please. The RPA vote-revote fiasco was 100% Ward collusion with Carty. Sure the BOD approved it, but they were Ward puppets that did as he told them to do.

I plan to windfall 49% of my 401k via personal loan taken out and then invested in the AMR stock right after the filing in 2009. If they screw us over in a pre-packaged BK the profits will soar and your 401k will likely return all concessions to your own pocketbook.

Hell if you have to also second mortgage your property and ride on the backs on their stock award profit program.

That's a hell of a gamble... I know people who mortgaged their houses, liquidated their kids college funds, etc. to buy up airline stock because they were certain it would be a sure thing, and they lost all that equity within a year of buying into it.

Just be careful with the 401K loans. If you somehow wind up out of a job (voluntarily or otherwise), loans against a 401K can be called by the bank. IIRC, they have to be repaid within 90 days of leaving payroll or you face default and a 33% penalty for early withdrawl.

If you're going to buy stock, buy responsibly using cash on hand that you're not already depending on for something else.

They expect to have something to show the membership by the first week of July and voting would begin shortly after that. Of course the BOD must first authorize it for a vote.

I can't imagine this HASN'T been in the works for weeks now. I am just praying for any kind of an early out.

June 27th is the deadline for an agreement...
Its deal or no deal....

Hey all, a fellow FA told me about this site. Interesting stuff - you all seem to know a lot more about what's going on than my "leaders" do. I for one am hoping for a "deal". I'd like to take some steps forward (no more concessions!) but have never been a big supporter of Laura and her hard headed tactics. Hoping for the best and trying to be realistic at the same time....

The mailings announcing the road shows for the contract extension are out, yet not even a good rumor on whats going to be presented. July 8 for LAX, word should spread fast. MIA wont get to see the presentation until the 29th.

This email was waiting on me when I got home from dinner with friends tonight. Color me surprised. (not)

Dear SLT Based Flight Attendants -

At 9:00 pm this evening President Laura Glading briefed the BOD that after 3 weeks of intense negotiations, APFA and AA failed to reach a short term agreement to provide immediate relief for the membership. I am disappointed but determined all the same.

Our Union will now implement well crafted strategies for full scale bargaining. The first step in the plan is to “Mobilize to Maximize.â€￾ It is imperative that we have an overwhelming turn out at the APFA Road Shows.

These meetings will allow line flight attendants a direct line of communication with the APFA Negotiating Team and National Officers. Let your voices be heard, plan to attend the APFA STL Road Show Wednesday, July 23 from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

In Unity

Laura Glading just announced on the APFA hotline that a ocntract had not been reached.

Jim you type quicker than I do and I was half-asleep.

That's a shame. I was hoping that at least one of AA's labor groups would have the long-term vision necessary to seal a deal.

And, you know for a fact that the failure of the talks is due to union shortsightedness, how?

AA has traditionally asked for the first-born from each family in return for a $.25/hr raise. Then they refuse to negotiate to something more acceptable. It is to their advantage to drag out the negotiations as long as possible forcing the f/as to work under the old contract until they have no other choice--i.e., when the union asks the NMB to institute binding arbitration or to be released from the negotiations. Then and only then does AA get serious about bargaining.

You're right - that's a very valid point. Can't judge until we know more details.

I guess "Decline or Resign" was echoing in my head and I made an assumption.
