I got my copy of the proposed constitutional changes today. Article II, Section 4.B, paragraph 6, if approved, will deny furloughees the right to vote unless they pay their dues in full. This is nothing more than an ploy to disenfranchise the former TWA flight attendants who make up the bulk of those of us still on furlough.
I don't want to hear any arguments that other unions do this. Yes, they do. And, they did from the very beginning. No union in the U.S. has ever changed its constitution after the fact to deny a class of members the right to vote.
Also, I smell a lawsuit; I smell a lawsuit. We furloughees, are the ONLY, non-working members who are singled out in this change to begin having to pay dues.
Hell, there is another change which exempts someone who has been fired or suspended by the company (and, we all know you have to really blot your copy book to get fired at AA) if they appeal for reinstatement. AND, they only have to pay the back dues in full if they are awarded back pay in full. If they get 50% back pay, they only have to pay 50% of the back dues. AND, THEY GET TO CONTINUE VOTING THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS.
This is so very low-class, underhanded, yellow-bellied, and slimy, that I don't even have words to describe it. Any AA flight attendant who votes for this change deserves the labels, like skynAAzi, that have been used on this board by flight attendants from other airlines.
Unlike changes to the U.S. Constitution or the state Constitution where one would be allowed to vote for one change and against another, it appears that we will have to do a straight up or down vote. And, if the APFA plans to pretend that this provision is already in force and tries to prevent me from voting, I'll be the first to sign up for the lawsuit.
NOTE TO FORMER TWA FLIGHT ATTENDANTS: If you start having fundraisers to help people pay their dues, let me know where to send my check.
