Where was AA's 777s overhauled before the outsourcing?

And I believe that would TUL, and I would bet TUL has changed a 777 engine or two before, lol.

And I guess you dont realize that this engine change is unscheduled maintenance?

That is correct. TUL 777s had a heavy check in 6B. The A300 dock was converted to a 777 dock. Rumor has it the conversation was over $2mil.

Engine quits = land the plane now.

I'm sure you both are thinking TUL as in TULSA, not TUS...

Let's see, 777's moved from TUL to AFW to outsourcing. Hasn't been a 777 in Tulsa to be overhauled for many, many years. So, I venture to say before outsourcing, the 777's were overhauled in AFW.

actually they would have buzzed Alliance and picked up a replacement... but only if it was one of the 8 Rolls powered aircraft.

the GEs on the LRs are indeed done in the air.

AA will figure out the technique and might get it down better than the DC10 engine changes.

smack!

DL would have changed the engine in mid-air.

Sounds like a few here trying to get this thread locked also...

Maybe DL should learn how to fly in thunderstorms, or how about flight 1288 that the engine exploded and killed two passengers?

if you want to down that road, I am CERTAIN that AA has bent more metal and all that is associated with it than just about any other airline.

or we could just admit that engine failures happen with safe landings pretty routinely and E's snarky comment - undoubtedly an uncontrolled outburst - added nothing substantive to the thread.

You don't understand the difference between humor and mentioning an accident which resulted in the deaths of several hundred people?....

Clearly, you've got issues to deal with.

yes, robbed, I am glad the 777 landed safely.

never did I say that AA runs anything but a safe operation and its pilots are as well-trained as any in the world.

no, I do get it, E.

you have decided it is ok to trash someone else's reputation for years on end by a thousand cuts but it is not ok for someone else to pull out the big guns and use them at one time.

The effect is the same.

He who is without sin should throw the first stone.

And if you don't remember how that story ended up, the crowd all turned and walked away as did the woman without a single stone being thrown.

And Capt Reality,

I guess you don realize TUL is AA's largest maintenance base.[/]

I guess you don't know that they don't do regular maintenance on the 777 at TULE. Regular scheduled engine changes are done at DWH.

NONE OF THIS should be in the captain's considerations for getting the airplane on the ground.  When the FAA invesitgates, it the captains does not have a DA** good reason for passing a suitable airport (and company/maintenance/passenger convenience considerations are NOT a good reason), then said captain is liable to lose his/her license.
