So are stations like BOS, BWI, DCA, PIT, etc likely going to stay for the long haul?

   If the scope protection in the contract expires at amendable date; the mid sized stations become vulnerable. The survivors, at this point, may have very good intentions of fixing things, however it may be too late. At the amendable date, even with ongoing negotiations, the company is free to begin the outsourcing of many mid sized stations. What is the average years beyond an amendable date, within the industry, until a new agreement is reached? I'm guessing 2.5 to three years.... maybe longer. Based on how swift they have moved on outsourcing work up to this point... IMO a lot more jobs and livelihoods will be at stake. At the very least; The company has a big card to play at the negotiating table come amendable date.

You are correct.  Those tier two stations are on the table for the next course on the menu.  The company will digest the 2,000 from the 28 stations and that will take a couple years. When the tier two 'drop dead' date is up [Jan 2018] you can be sure they will be contracted out and absorbed by this management. However, any new negotiation team should have a lot of leverage since the United members really don't have anything other than a wage and normal retirement contributions. Hopefully, the AA negotiations with the Association will be complete and then the United negotiators can point to that and use that as a model.   Hopefully, the Association doesn't sign any arbitration clause because ramp jobs may be eaten alive by an arbitrator if he compares the scope at US AIRWAYS to Delta or United, and the part time issues.  IMO, we can't afford arbitration due to the very high risk of management just going thru the motions in negotiations and then serving it up to limited arbitration 6 months later.  Pilots and Stews are different since they are all full time and the scope is clear.
 
As an aside, I'm hearing chatter that a TWU/IAM merger is being discussed again.  IMO, that makes sense and it would be about time that unions started merging in this industry like the stew union did with the CWA. I'd be all for the TWU merging with the IAM. That would consolidate all ramp contracts into one union.
