2015 AMT Discussion

For the senior guys on both sides.. if you had to do it all over again and you just got your A&P today... Which company would you apply for?

I hear despite most workgroups being non union... Delta actually treats their employees like human beings. I'll have my A&P soon and honestly would love to work for American because I want to move to texas but If I dont get my job back in fleet service.. I would have to go elsewhere

You just answered your own question. You can even add Southwest to that list.

Yeah but you also gotta factor quality of life where you plan on working I would defitnely consider Southwest at PHX because I hear its a great place to live despite the heat. I don't know if southwest outsorce or not at Dallas love field... I'm not sure its even a hub

I don't wanna say I'm being picky.. at the end of the day If I had no choice but to take a job in Alaska.. damn I have no choice, but I prefer not to turn wrenches where it gets below zero. I can't do it lol

I rather fry in the desert. and California is way outta the question

Southwest has maintenance in Dallas where they do overhauls.  It is much cheaper to live in Dallas than it is in PHX.  You should also apply to FedEx and UPS as they have aircraft maintenance too.  The good thing for you is that all major airlines and FedEx and UPS pay their mechanics much more than AA does. Good luck.

I don't blame him one bit!
Why fight a fight when you are fighting your own membership as well as the company.
Kudos to Bob!
The rest of the twu membership... nothing...

I agree.  Bob did what he could and got flack for it.  He caught it both from the international and the membership.  I am one of those who appreciate what he did and wish him the best of luck.

If you can get on at AA, give it a try - build up your experience for your resume'.  First chance you get for an interview at UPS, Fed Ex, or SWA jump on it, and don't look back.  That is the path that many are taking once they find out the differences in pay and benefits, and believe me it is a significant amount.

Another question you might consider asking is IF they would do it all over again period.

A&P is a highly skilled profession with a wide range of disciplines that must adhere to exacting standards.

Some senior people may feel the compensation is not worth the investment. I don't just mean financial or training investment, I am also referring to the impact the job has on your social life and time with family.

An A&P with 10 years is probably going to be stuck on second shift, no holidays, no weekends, days off in the middle of the week and getting the least desirable jobs.

Want to miss Christmas with the wife and kid for the next 10 years?

You may want to look at someone with about 5 to 10 years in the industry and consider the pros and cons of their situation and ask yourself if YOU want to be in that situation in 5 or 10 years.

Is working as an A&P worth that sacrifice?  Do you see more pros than cons? Only you know the answer.

I only say this because you sound like you are in a transition in your life. Don't get tunnel vision. There are a lot of ways to make a living. Some pay more and require a lot less dedication, training, and sacrifice.

Any A&P's on here feel free to disagree and I meant no disrespect.

700......Perhaps if you were in the situation that those of us currently employed by the company were in and reading weekly updates by the negotiation committee  involving bulletin boards and uniforms while at the same time losing a minimum of 4% weekly and being the lowest paid carrier while the companies are recognizing record profits you would complain also....

I blame the union more the twu iam shouldn't be called unions. The old unions in the old days got big pay and did not except connsesions . What they are is a big company where they care about dues. So they sale there members down the river. Heck they have to so the Intl presidents can make over 200000 and there excecutive secretary can make 130000. They should be making what we are. Then maybe they would go work for us . And not waste 3 months of negotiations.
This guy gets it.
