USAPA President's Message
Fellow Pilots,
Yesterday American Airlines announced record quarterly profits and a capital deployment program, emphasizing once again the success of its merger with US Airways.
Less than two years ago, few thought that an announcement like yesterday's was even a remote possibility so soon. At the time, it was not even clear whether a merger could be achieved, who the management team would be, or the timeline. Nevertheless, with the information USAPA had, we supported the process and worked to make the merger happen.
We marched with other labor unions on the steps of the Capitol and together prevailed in the Department of Justice lawsuit. During negotiations, we bargained with the Company in good faith, using assumptions that were set before the merger took place. One of those assumptions predicted the synergies from the merger would not take place until 2016, which led to our 2016 parity review. These are synergies USAPA helped create through our flexibility during the merger process.
Yesterdays record profitability announcement came sooner than anyone expected and it changes the dynamics of the ongoing JCBA negotiations. There is a new economic reality superseding the old assumptions. With the Company setting record profits, we must participate in those gains as well.
Yesterdays good news was important for our airline and the airline industry. We now must challenge ourselves to ensure the results of negotiations will be equally good for our pilots.
Regards,
Gary Hummel, President
Doug called. "Negotiations are over. I am already the CEO of the biggest airline in the world (with no pilot profit sharing!!), and I have an injunction :D. P.S. Thank you for cheerleading and punking the reps that believed we could afford to pay you more. The recall was a work of art! I love you boys! I drank so much champagne I puked! Thank goodness I lost my car keys for a week."

Disclaimer: conflict causes balance... If one side prevailed, we might have nothing, and if the other side prevailed we might give it all away....

Just look at AOL... There is no balance in that radical group, and they have nothing!!!!!

The future will depend on a collective willingness to strike, which won't at all be helped by the thankfully, only minority addition/dilution of hopeless AWA-"spartan" spineless halfwits:

BTW, "cap'n aux", that pathetic beer-belly really rocks for "you'se" when combined with an "athletic" football prop and "integrity matters" T-shirt...Perhaps you could at least try a "varsity letter jacket" to decently cover up a bit  ? ;)
There it is! The truth of it.

APA "informational" picket line is all anyone will get......at BEST!

I'll allow for a bit more optimism there brother. Some of the west are decent folks, and given the total numbers of the combined groups anyway...there (VERY fortunately) just aren't enough completely worthless AWA "spartans" to be able to successfully sell everyone else out/don knee pads/suck up to management/cross picket lines/etc...not that they wouldn't try...

I'd say what i really think, but it seems I do like to sugarcoat things a bit. ;)

I am happy to allow optimism in the ranks, but as long as the mechanics don't have a better contract, as long as the CLT escalators are INOP, the moving sidewalks are INOP, and the C-concourse stench remains wafting... I don't share the optimism that passengers or labor have much more to look forward to than what they already have, and don't really deserve anyway. :D

That all's fairly granted Phoenix, save perhaps for the "deserve" portion, but I was more thinking of a minimum of 2-to-more years to come for the pilot community...and who says I can't play Pollyanna for at least a moment anyway? :)

Don't forget TWA pilots. There will still be plenty around come 2019.

Addendum: I know your post was offered tongue-in-cheek brother. This now added because I'm not sure just the "Pollyanna" portion of my response made that clear earlier. ;)

I'll be off to the petrified-pilots-preserve-and-museum long before then, and can only, and most certainly do, wish all/east/west/APA/whatever both decent and hopefully uneventful careers. ;) The whole nic-nonsense was just an irrational and temporary disturbance, and I'll hope that all will eventually get over that aberrant little pothole in life's road. Most west folks I've had the pleasure of conversing with ain't such bad sorts, and it's always and only their most devoutly cross-threaded "spartans" I address my proper insults towards...You know = The mighty "varsity letter jacket", "liberty" tie supposed "patriot" types, "spartan"..umm..."soldiers", "many battles"-tested-"knights", and all such childishly mindless narcissists without so much as even the slightest clue...

I never expect you to post devoid of wit, subtlety, or irony.. accept for when you assume the role of a simpleton and cry "This is Sparta."

And yes there are a many good fellows on all sides of the issues, but I suppose nary a mind will be changed now. Perhaps those who revel in their hatred of USAPA will go to their graves that way... Heck I expect I may sing the glories of ALPA and the "recall braggarts" until my dying day :D.

The mechanics will be happy to learn you're unhappy with their decision to approve a new contract.

The rocking chairs work OK most of the time.

Can't you be happy for that?

Some people still believe the company was negotiating with USAPA.

Now that's funny.

The C-councourse stench isn't near the rocking chairs.  I am grateful for that.  (Really, can't someone fix the stench on C-Con near Bad Daddy's.  I am surprised OSHA, and the EPA haven't intervened.  NOAA could do an environmental impact study.  I guarantee you Bad Daddy's is losing business.  I don't think its the restaurants fault, but I for one no longer eat there because of the hallway aroma... someone could cut a big hole in the roof and put in an exit fan.. its not like they air condition the place anyway. :D)

Of course they weren't negotiating with USAPA.  The "recall braggarts" told us they were the ones with the companies full attention to make deals. :D
