WSJ: Delta, TPG Assessing Bids for American Airlines

TPG has never parted out an airline that they've invested in, at least while they were in control of it.

Trying to make comparisons to the TW bankruptcy proceedings is interesting, but not entirely relevant.

As bad as the situation is, AA's still one of the top airlines globally in terms of revenues and relative size. TW was a fragment of its prior self, and essentially insignificant from 1993 or so until 2001, unless you happened to live in St. Louis.

TPG, Delta, even NK is better than a merger with US the useless.(Period)
You have no right to call anyone useless when your company is ranked in the top 10 for most hated companies. Lets see how long AA lasts with all the bad publicity.AA is no longer a strong player bye bye

I'm sure US would have been ranked, but from my experience, their customers are too ashamed and embarrassed to admit they flew on them....

Yet US is making money and AA isnt.

Lets match W2's across the board including retirement, healthcare and workrules.

You and your Cactus mangy stray dogs should have imploded even after you latched yourselves onto the goverment teat for post 9/11 money while AA did not. Luckily for you, AW and U didn't, yet AA has still had to match your fares after your screwed your fellow taxpayers with your employees pensions and healthcare. Usair's only success since the idiotic merge with Piedmont by Colodny, destroy a good airline in the process, has been to have their employees work for less.

Take it somewhere else sport.

Since the merger, US has an aggregate net loss in excess of $1.2 billion. Yes, US reported modest profits in 2006, 2007 and 2010, but the huge loss in 2008 and the smaller loss in 2009 more than wiped out all the profits post-merger.

As Mach85ER pointed out, of course there are some profits to be made when your East narrowbody pilots work for much less than nonunion jetBlue pilots.

We at US are very happy to work here or else we wouldn't be here. Enjoy your misery at AA. We work in a healthy work environment not like ur diseased AA and TWU. Good Luck on your paycut

All airlines recieved free tax dollars after 9/11, US borrowed money under the ATSB and has and is paying the loans back to the banks that loaned it to them. All the ATSB did was underwrite the loan.

So AA took money.

There was $5 billion in tax dollars given to all the airlines, I am searching the net for how much AA got.

Here was what each airline got directly from the US government without having to pay it back.

All of this is in millions.

UA $774.2
AA $693.9
DL $635.7
NW $428.1
CO $361.5
US $306.9
WN $282.8
TW $141.1
HP $116.7
AE $21.5

So AA received almost $700 million tax free without paying it back, US/HP borrowed money, paid it back and the ATSB made a profit off the stock issued.

Source page is on page 8

I was referring to the ATSB loan, not the compensation for the enforced shutdown.

You've got a board, go to it. Whatever happens, so be it. Becoming part of your mangy pack would be the lowest of the lows.

While it's true we are now bankrupt, the law should have been written long ago that a company or airline liquidate after filing. None of this B.S. of companies like yours sucking the life out of the well run ones for several years like AW did. You should have bee gone long ago. Be happy. Every long term airline expect SWA is now a dirtbag including yours. the only idead for success is having everybody take the placebo of working for 20% less. Easy to do at PHX.

done playing, bye.

Do you not understand HP and US both borrowed money from private banks, not the US government. The ATSB was the cosigner and US and HP issued stock to the ATSB as collateral and the ATSB and the banks both made a profit from the loans and the stock issued.

Show me where the tax dollars were loaned.

Don't let the facts get in your way.

To my knowlege Tpg is not in the business to wrecking companies. I have a little knowledge of TPG. For the most part they are highly respected , Direct and get the deal done...They pulled off the Txu 38 billion dollar deal...so what's a 29 billion deal...It could be done.... Fairly quickly..

I have no idea about their non-airline investment strategy, but with airlines they tend to be turn-around specialists instead of a slash and burn for a quick profit outfit.
