This was the topic on my blog today... I've been taking a breather, but this was too much to pass up on.
You do a good analysis on the prospect of a full-fledged AA/DAL hook up, but I think the scenario that is more realistic and that most are concerned about is a break-up of AA.
For reasons you highlighted, there is NO WAY DAL wants all of AA. I think that they highly cover certain assets. Their biggest prizes would be (in order) MIA, certain assets in NYC, and DFW. This would lead to some sort of multi-party deal that would involve assets being split between DAL, UniCal, and USAirways.
I think that is a remote possibility ("too big to fail" comes to mind, especially in an election year) but nonetheless, a possibility.
BTW I saw a group of FA's congregating in DFW this morning so I gravitated over to hear what was going on. Mini-union meeting with a report about yesterdays meeting with NMB. So much for Horton being different. The same ol same ol coming out of Centreport. Company has no business plan and will be going on a slash and burn 1113c jihad. NMB said it was going to mediate the negotiations and the company was whining about that. Brundage was there and was making all sorts of threats and demeaning comments. (Haven't heard anything out of APA about the meeting)
