WN Mechanics seek mediation

I don’t remember amfa stating that we had them with etops- actually they said we don’t have leverage there. It was misinformed members spreading that rumor. But hey, you guys got an axe to grind with amfa, so don’t let that stop you from spreading your lies that amfa said we did.

He can't help it. I love how he trashes the rampers on American. Then commenting on Charlie Brown comments . But at least the American AMTs are smarter than us. Have a great Saturday Weazz, at work today! Oh I forgot his little Lt cronnies like to put little X marks on my comments, makes them feel big! :)

I know. The Troll is amazing. He bashes the Association, the IAM and the TWU but then is all nicey nice trying to get information (Why I have no clue) from one of OUR Negotiators.

It’s like the dude kicks the Dad in the nuts then thinks he’s welcome to have dinner with the Family.

Southwest Mechanics Threaten To Throw Legal Wrench in Airline’s Proposed Hawaiian Operations

CENTENNIAL, CO – October 24, 2017 – Bret Oestreich, National Director of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), announced that the union will be filing legal action that could disrupt Southwest Airlines’ plan to initiate service to Hawaii in 2018.

“Southwest Airlines has the lowest ratio of mechanics to aircraft of any major carrier,” commented Oestreich. “Now, the carrier wants to expand its service over open waters without accepting direct responsibility for the airworthiness of its aircraft. Not only is this irresponsible, but it is a direct violation of our contract, and we are not going to allow it to happen.”

Southwest Airlines has historically been a domestic carrier with limited international experience. In order for its 737 aircraft to fly internationally, including service to Hawaii, the planes must be ETOPS (Extended Operations) certified and maintained.

In a recent contract proposal, the Company offered a commitment to use Southwest Mechanics to perform ETOPS departure checks within the 48 contiguous states in return for the contractual right to use vendors to perform ETOPS work outside the 48 contiguous states. Despite the fact that AMFA never agreed to this proposal, and the parties remain in negotiations that have dragged out for more than five years, Southwest recently announced its plan to outsource ETOPS work related to its Hawaiian operations.

“Southwest’s entire Hawaii business plan is premised on going forward with a maintenance plan that violates our contract,” stated Oestreich. “AMFA’s legal action seeks a cease and desist order that will stop Southwest dead in its tracks. If Southwest wants to fly safely to Hawaii, it has to operate within the existing contractual limitations. It is time for Southwest to accept greater responsibility for maintaining its own aircraft.”

A half truth is still a lie. When you claim AMFA did they are going to look into filing a Federal lawsuit to block SWA ETOPS flights by Brett, and Lee Seham, claiming intermediate check maintenance is our work, and our own negotiating committee allowed for months for members to believe that, before they finally had to admit it was not true, after the T/A was agreed too. The same lies you, Swampy , and saying the company is lying on the company fear tactics, what will happen if we turn this down. The truth hurts doesn't it?

And that's the Game!!! :) love when people are caught, priceless! Excellent job!

And the debate rages on as to the merits or shortfalls of AMFA, a craft union, who's sole purpose was and is to promote aviation mechanics. I bought into this movement in the late 90's and proudly spent the last 13 years at AA in bad standing with the TWU. There was and still are many reasons I support craft unionism and believe AMFA has done just as much for my profession as plumber, electrician, and elevator mechanic unions have theirs. After years of debate little credit is given to AMFA for breaking the $30, $40, and soon to be $50 glass ceiling for commercial AMT's. I don't give a toss if you throw bags, change engines, serve drinks/direct passengers to exits in an emergency, or fly the aircraft, your only worth what you can get regardless of union affiliation. I respect democracy and will honor its results every time.

Exactly Birdman AMFA has faults no doubt and we met our demise at NW but it wasn't all AMFA's fault. NW spent millions with the help of other airlines I am sure to break AMFA the airlines were not about to deal with a militant union so they spent the money to pay off politicians and the FAA and hire and train scabs to break AMFA but one thing is for certain our pay today you can thank AMFA for we would still be making ramp pay if AMFA had not been around.

Then why even have a Union , and pay dues. If Delta and Fed ex pay more?

Yeah you said it I didn't I am asking the same question obviously the airline unions cannot get it done. But I will always admit it is unions that get the non union peeps the money they get.

The major airlines have always paid what the going rate is. Last time I looked UPS and Fed Ex ,always the highest, nothing to do with AMFA. SWA has always been middle of the road or equal. The only reason we were high for so long because the other majors went Bankrupt, SWA did not.

Driver (Chuck) - Show me once where I lied.

As far as the AA troll- there wasn’t a cease and desist ordered, and amfa has stated during all the roadshows that etops is not leverage to get us a contract.

I was at the road shows, where after months, they told everyone there was no leverage. I understand the younger guys want to make as much as they can. Usually when you negotiate a contract, both sides the union and the company figure out what is the biggest group you need to satisfy, and target that group. Then you have a successful negotiations. When most people were satisfied, then through the road shows, you poison the well so it doesn't pass. How well are serving the members, removing the chance of a successful contract. So what is the end game? I personally do not want to see the company wants this, and we just chase our tails. What you personally have to ask yourself, what is good enough for you. Just vote.

Dont know this cat, well written and sounds like AMFA was proactive if the Southwest came out publically and stated and forecast they were going to breech the CBA specially on an item this big dealing with on call providers in Hawaii. Forward thinking to not be seen as obstructionists when ETOPS CBA language is violated and SWA would be dragged into court at whatever level, SWA is asking for relief in Hawaii so that means they dont have authority to outsource their current work. You never ask for relief if you think you already have it. SO ETOPS HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY THE FAA OR THE COMPANY ON GETTING CERTIFIED 3 TIMES NOW? What does that tell you, may not be directly associated with TA but does not help getting certification on a safety sensitive issue. But you know nothing about that having qualifications or safety sensitive aircraft maintenance, because you dont have a dog in the fight rodent. You are a very naive individual when dealing with business and being proactively setting up the stage for a grievance, arbitration or court battle. Just stay in your fleet world, you will better off and so will all of us AMTs in this industry.

Just relax and reread some of your posts. I dont truly believe you are that nieve in this industry. I get it you despise AMFA. Ok I get it! You are again deliberately deceiving Lies and half truths, sounds like AMFA was proactive if the Southwest came out publically by VP of Maint and stated and forecast they were going to breech the CBA specially on an item this big dealing with on call providers in Hawaii. Forward thinking to not be seen-observed-optics-precieved-portrayed as obstructionists in the world of big business and RLA-NMB when ETOPS CBA language is violated and SWA would be dragged into court at whatever level. (Logical thinking, you are forced to go public before the action happens) SWA is asking for relief in Hawaii so that means they dont have authority to outsource their current work. You never ask for relief if you think you already have it. SO ETOPS HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY THE FAA OR THE COMPANY ON GETTING CERTIFIED 3 TIMES AND NOT SELLING TICKETS NOW? THERE IS MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH DOT -OIG GOVT, OSHA, FAA- Regulators AND multiple audits at SWA maintenance program. Not brain surgery, What does that tell you, may not be directly associated with TA but does not help getting certification on a safety sensitive issue. You are a very naive individual like weezer when dealing with business and being proactively setting up the stage for a grievance, arbitration or court battle. Just stay in your bubble, guys at SWA will be better off in the future.

You would be the same person bitching if AMFA had done nothing after SWA came out publically saying they were going to breech the contract, so either way you ***** and spread discontent. unfortunately for you...... check mate!
