Will Oneworld lose JAL?

You're wrong about UAL....theyre still bleeding.

Yep; they are.. as we are, and all are.

Thanks to Uncle Sam, UAUA took a dip in the BK pool, didn't drown, and they'll do it again, and again.

AMR is stalled waiting for the Red Coats, playing poker with DL for JAL, but the water is not as cold as before.

I'm thinking it's going to be a long cold winter ala Valley Forge...

That's what I've been saying for a while now. Problem is, Arpey doesn't have what it takes to purchase UA. Sat on his thumbs while DL swallowed up NW and will do the same while UA marries someone else.

Here's a OneWorld press release with more details:

http://www.oneworld.com/ow/news/details?objectID=20144
That would be a get marriage because you get the asian market so need for AA, but it would be great without UA's baggage!!!!!!
Depending on the laws in Japan AA could own percentage of it not all of it. Like in the USA foreign companies/investors only could own 25% of the airline!!!!!

Speaking of JAL.

http://www.japanprobe.com/2008/11/25/japan...ss-than-pilots/

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...0925521116.html

Seventy JAL executives, including Mr. Nishimatsu, are forgoing their December pay to take responsibility for the carrier's woes.
I saw that in a CNN interview JAL CEO took a pay cut. They were asking him about American compianies CEO taking bonus and making great salaries compare to them. Its all about cultural difference!!!!

Why this fixation with being the biggest?... Aeroflot was the largest airline in the world for decades, and look where it got them. I can see trying to buy up some UAL assets, but merging? Have you all lost your mind?...

Deltaflot might be capturing a lot of the press headlines, but make no mistake, it's a lot of hype. Their JFK terminal sucks, and with runway closures coming for the next six months, that operation is going to take a huge dependability hit.

I agree with you on that eolesen. AA seemed to do just fine when someone else was the biggest. Then of course Don Carty decided he had to have the "biggest". What's up with that Don?

Can you imagine what a mess an AA/UA meger would be? Just look at how nasty the pilot integration became over at America West/US Airways. In any airline merger someone is going to get the short end of the stick. The only people who believe otherwise are the fanboys and the folks in the PR department.

...

Agreed that merging with UA is probably not the smartest thing, but also, I don't think we can completely ignore the drive to be the biggest. In this game, is seems if you're not one of the biggest, you risk becoming a TWA, NWA, US Airways, or CO (?).

As an AA employee, I know which side AA needs to be on in a takeover situation.

Back to the topic:
Now that the US and Japan have reached an open skies agreement, JAL is going to need to make a quick decision as ANA/UAL/CO are going to move lightning fast to take advantage of any indecision. THIS is one thing that may help AA, as I would expect that we could implement ATI nearly as quickly as ANA/UAL. With DAL, on the other hand, JAL will be bogged down in transition to Skyteam for a couple of years.

Agree. ATI isn't a wave of the wand, but it is a much more immediate benefit that JAL could start realizing.

Unfortunately, what's not mentioned in the Open Skies announcement is slots. AA might want to fly another 20 flights, but if Japan doesn't assign them commercially viable slots, they're screwed. At LHR and a lot of other airports, slots can be freely bought or traded.

Slots are also going to be a very important issue when Haneda opens up.

If they lose JAL, AA might do well abandoning NRT and attempting to move over to HND. Considerably closer to the business districts.

Are BA, IB, CX and other 1-world carriers as concerned as AA is about JAL leaving? I realize BA has an upcoming strike to worry about as well as integrating IB, and Finnair has labor problems too, but is the EU-Japan/Asia market just not important to these carriers?

Did I say anything about AA? All I did was post a couple links about JAL. Did you actually read those links? Did you read the part about the CEO making less than some of his pilots? Can you tell me of any Fortune 500 company in the USA that's having financial difficulties where the CEO is making less than some of the frontline employee's?
I know you what mean but they make it up in bonus and options when they sign the contract!!!!
Some Executive/ VP's come in screw up the company than help it!!!!!!

Time to seriously look at UAL if JAL is gone.

It's not about being the biggest, it's about having access and customers. NRT will expand the number of slots, but USA-based carriers won't get many (if any) of them as the USA-basesd airline total will fall from 28% of the slots to 25%.
