AMR head warns 'opportunists' may attempt merger

"There will be outside parties who may try to knock us off our path," CEO Tom Horton said. "Some will say we should shrink the company dramatically, close hubs and lay off thousands more to create the greatest value for creditors. Some will say the company should be sold or broken up. And as we've seen before in this industry, there may be opportunists who wish to acquire our company while we are in this situation," Horton noted.

Just who might that be??

Horton was in MIA pilot ops the morning of the 12th. It was face time and small talk. He talked about a few things and the conversation drifted to the BK process. He mentioned merger possibilities and specifically stated were B6 and AK. LCC was discussed and the point was made that LCC's desirable attributes amounted to less than 30% of their operation. He said a merger was possible, but only on our terms. LCC could never come up with the money required.

Sooo skippy, good luck!

Being the town crier that you are, who will the next victim of LCC's merger machine be? Virgin Galactic?

I have no doubt Doug Parker will come out swinging. He has to. His legacy is at stake.

Did you notice LUV's recent actions?

During the November 29 Crew News session US Airways CEO Doug Parker was asked by Captain Jim Courant "that if US Airways elected to acquire AMR could the Tempe-based carrier obtain the financing?" Parker indicated he already had calls from investors offering to lend money to US Airways to acquire AMR."

As far as Horton dictating AMR's terms he will have an input, but the Creditor's Committee and the Judge will decide AMR's fate. AMR will have 180 days to exclusively file a POR and then other parties can submit a POR to the Court. If AMR's POR is not complete they can petition the court for an extension.

Have you looked at the make up of the creditors committee?

Parker may be able to come up with a pile of money but on what terms?

This shot is even longer than the DAL shot... And the deck is stacked even further than before.

Why do you spin these fantasies? They are all speculative and you broadcast them as if they're certainties.. lCC could simply elect to acquire AA? C'mon man...

AAviator,

I simply posted links to a couple of articles and other information including Doug Parker's comments to US Airways' pilots at the CLT Training Center, which was webcast to all employees, that he indicated that people with money are calling him with offers to bankroll an AMR takeover. No fantasy, just the No Spin Zone."

"LCC's desirable attributes amounted to less than 30% of their operation" ... After a merger, most likely true. I posted in another thread that there will be pleanty of merger pain on both side of the US/AA tracks once this happens.

"He said a merger was possible, but only on our terms." ..... I hate to break it to you ... but nothing is in "AA's terms only" anymore?

AAviator - Please don't pay any attention to the drivel of ole' Mr. Mu**. If you research the many thousands of posts he has created, you will find a very sick man behind them. He was the one predicting the "done deal" with UAL many years ago. Many of our brethren were foolish enough to follow his rantings and lost huge amounts of $$$ speculating on the now defunct UAL/US marriage.

Mr. Mu** is very much like Jim Jones and David Koresh...

He lives in a fantasy world, a very sick, pathetic one at that!

The lure of 47 shiny 777s plus about 15 more on the way, in addition to the 42 787-9s on order, is a powerful attraction, like a bright light to a moth.

It is what he does and has been doing for years. Sooner or later the odds are that he might actually make a prediction that comes true. As for mergers....they are not generally good for the employees. They are mostly designed to make a few management people, lawyers and large investors a lot of money. Today I have 1 year to go if I can hang in that long so I doubt any merger could be consummated in that amount of time particularly if USAirways management is involved. Dougie wants to make his deal before it becomes obvious to everybody else that all he has done at USAirways is very short term and he has basically shined up an extremely rotten apple. If he doesn't make his next deal before this place falls apart he actually might have a problem finding a decent job.

Wow , that's pretty harsh of you to compare someone to David Koresh. To CM defense , the UAL deal was very close to a done deal. I see no problem with him posting the articles that he does. Why don't you guys just Fn chill with the insults to this man. He doesn't co e on here and insult anyone . But yet most of you seem it's ok to insult a guy who is just posting info for oters to read . If you don't like what he post then press ignore .
