US AIRWAYS STATEMENT RELEASED SATURDAY
The following statement was released Saturday, April 8 by Corporate Communications based on a situation that developed on Friday. This information is being provided to employees; however employees should be aware that external/media inquiries should be directed to Corporate Communications.

TEMPE, Ariz., April 8, 2006 – On Friday, April 7, US Airways received a report from airport authorities that one of its pilots smelled of alcohol just prior to reporting for work. US Airways, as well as the authorities involved, take any allegation of this sort very seriously and as such, the pilot was detained at a security checkpoint and removed from active service before he reported for duty. Consistent with its obligations under federal regulations, US Airways conducted tests on the pilot. Based on standards set forth in applicable law, the test results did not disqualify the pilot from performing his duties. Nevertheless, US Airways continues to hold him out of service as it continues its investigation into the matter.

US Airways takes these matters extremely seriously. We are confident that the safety of our passengers and employees was never compromised and we will maintain our industry leading safety policies.
