US Airways CEO hints more airline consolidation may be ahead

Oh well...only 4.5 months to go...

Best regards,

USA320Pilot

We only have 4.5 months left to be subjected to your rants. thank goodness. Let me guess, You've decided to fall on the sword and give up your position for one of the fuloughed ones????

USA320Pilot comments: Doug Parker has made the comment on the cash position in an employee webcast on theHub. Too bad ClueByFour is wrong...again.

Umm, then Parker is lying to the SEC, soon-to-be reserve pilot.

Read the last quarterly report and report back as to how much cash is on hand.

700UW:

The comment came from the article titled "US Airways CEO hints more airline consolidation may be ahead", which started this topic.

My point is that United is still trying to look for a merger partner. Why? In my opinion, the company still has not fixed itself and needs to find a way to further cut costs and boost revenue.

Well the same article quotes USAirways Doug Parker is trying to look for a new merger partner too so do that mean the company has not fixed itself either?

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong, CT.

UA looking for a merger partner = obvious and clear evidence that UA is a floundering failure, desperate for a white knight to save it from sure extinction.

USAirways looking for a merger partner = a brilliant management team thinking outside the box and proactively repositioning itself for a prosperous the future.

See the diff?

Since you constantly insist that others answer your questions or face your ridicule for not answering, turnabout should be fair play. So a couple of simple questions.....

1 - Did you write these words:

"As for ALPA being able to stop any of this, the only way is to
capitulate and give the company far in excess of $295 million a year
as stipulated in the latest company "proposal"."

2 - If you did (as we both know to be true), do I have your permission to post the entire text of the message that included those words - including "signature". Then everyone can decide whether those words were "sarcastic" or not.

I'm going to work early, so I'll eagerly await your reply when I return.

Jim

Home again....and surprise, surprise - no answers

So maybe USA320Pilot has been busy getting ready for the holiday. Let me see if he's even been on here since I asked those two simple questions. My, my - he was here just a few minutes ago. Ah, here's the problem - he hasn't been here since I asked those two simple questions until a few minutes ago, at least not to post. He's probably getting ready to answer those two questions right now.....

US taking over/merging with NWA?

That's just too freaking hilarious. 😀

US had $1.6 billion of unrestricted cash plus short term investments (cash equivalents) as of 3/31/06.

AMR, on the other hand, had over $4.2 billion of unrestricted cash and cash equivalents on that date, and has already reported that it expected to have over $5.0 billion of unrestricted cash (and cash equivalents) on 6/30/06.

Anybody really think that US would be able to outbid AA for the lucrative China and NRT assets owned by NWA?

Only way I see US joining with NWA is if AMR takes over both and jettisons the domestic junk it doesn't see as valuable - keeping the valuable rights to Asia and the Shuttle. What's left (MEM, MSP, PHL, PIT, LAS and PHX) would be the new NW+US. Good luck with that.

Sounds to me like a certain Airbus captain is already salivating over left-seat flying 747s to China and Tokyo again, and we all know that's not gonna happen.

I agree with you on this one - anyone in their right mind can see that AA is stashing cash for 2 reasons... They are salivating over the Asia routes and in case they have to throw some chunks at the pensions. My prediction is AA will not go for a merger but if NWA happens to go chapter 7 USAir doesnt stand a chance - they will scrap most of the domestic and save the Asia... I really hopw this doesn't happen however - after the whole TWA situation. I hope they are made to put some of that cash toward their employees pensions and huge debt load they are carrying.

Interesting, Jim. It's been a week since you first asked those 2 simple questions, and STILL no response. How can that be?

The person you directed those questions to always criticizes others for not responding to direct questions. Is it possible he is a hypocrit???

Anyway, didn't know you were leaving us so soon. (4 1/2 months??) You'll be missed. Congrats to you and your family. I just flew 2 seperate retirement fights recently. Lot's of fun, even though they took all the landings! 😉 I hope the f/o you fly with makes your final trip memorable. Does US make any special arrangements, like a spraydown from the CFR crew, or let you pick your last trip?

Oddly enough, you are not the only one awaiting a response. I think it's fair to say we might see this thread hang around for awhile while waiting....

Here, I'll help keep it around until Jim get his response.
