US/AA merger settlement imminent!

Nope.  I've lived and worked in NYC, and if you're downtown, it's faster to EWR.  Maybe mid-town is faster, but there's no comparison to hopping the PATH to the monorail vs. sitting in a cab in traffic.

E Train to the Q70 beats ANYTHING to EWR, except maybe a helicopter.

Live in Big Apple for 16 years (12 in Manhattan); worked out of LGA for several of those.  EWR was always my last choice.  You can get to JFK quicker that EWR with the A train and Air Train.

Oh, Christ.    EWR v LGA.     Almost as contentious an internet issue as Airbus v Boeing.

Big problem with Newark right now is that United dominates it and UA isn't the Friendly Skies it once was.   That's a big reason that AA reported revenues in 2012 that were more than $3 billion higher than the Wall Street Stock Pushers predicted two years ago.

It also doesn't change that LGA has the largest number of local NYC passengers to destinations/from origins that are inside the LGA perimeter while JFK is the largest airport for destinations that are outside of the perimeter.

If EWR was that much easier, then the local revenue statistics should show it... but they don't.

EWR is a big hub because UA carriers far more connecting passengers THRU EWR but LGA and JFK are the preferred airports for local market traffic.

Thank goodness the expert cleared up that misconception.....now how can we work delta into the post?

Oh, come on already. We all.should know that nothing anywhere can top DL at LGA. I wouldn't be at all surprised if EWR & JFK ended up closing due to the traffic drain to DL at LGA.

speaking of NYC, remember that AA and US are facing a long-term split operation at LGA because there is likely no room at either terminal to move the combined operation.

DL has operations in 3 terminals at LGA. Remember that a move by US to the Marine Air Terminal was part of the original slot swap but got pushed aside.

Suppose that DL held onto the card of allowing US to consolidate its operations with AA in a merger that was almost certain to happen even when the slot swap was happening?

There continue to be indications that that the 717 is coming to BOS to be used on the DL Shuttle and part of the reason to do so would be to allow connections off of the three legs of the Shuttle - LGA to BOS, DCA, and ORD - using the other 200+ flights DL has at LGA. that could only work if the Shuttle and the rest of DL's LGA operation is connected and there is no way to make connections between the MAT and the other 2 DL terminals w/o clearing security and taking a Port Authority bus. DL doesn't allow connections to/from the Shuttle while US allowed it for years when they had a larger LGA operation.

Methinks that we may see a resolution to AA/US' need to consolidate operations at LGA with a move to another carrier or two at LGA which could also strengthen DL at LGA and resolve some of the slot/gate disputes.

AA/US faces the same split operation at ATL as well.

A few thoughts to chew on with your turkey - vegetarian or real.

A major gate swap at several airports could be win-win-win for multiple parties. DL just might have enough pull in the situation to help drive what it needs including getting greater access to DCA and DAL. AA could end up with better gate arrangements at LGA. Some low fare carriers might find the MAT a great alternative to the crowded central terminal at LGA.

AFAIK, UA is still split-operating from concourses A and C in the CTB. Why not just consolidate United in the current US gates in Term C, and US takes over United's vacated gates in concourse C… problem solved

I'll miss the old Tulip sign hanging over concourse C, but I'll live.

why should DL or UA help AA consolidate its operation unless they get something out of it?
