"The Independent Pilots Association is strongly committed to the principle of solidarity with our fellow transportation industry workers," said IPA President Tom Nicholson. "We will simply set the parking brakes on any UPS plane containing struck goods."

Wow. It's been so long since I've seen a union do what it's supposed to, I forgot what it looked like. Good for them.

Support for NWA AMTs is growing and there are still three days to go.

UPS, you are beautiful!

Now that's what I've been talking about! Solidarity!

What if *all* the unions stood that tall? We might just see some stability and security for the workers in this great society!

So now it's not just the flight, but the cargo on that flight that's "struck" too? Good Lord, where does it end? If I'm re-booked to AA from a cancelled NW flight, does that make me a struck passenger? Shouldn't AA march in solidarity and cancel any flight containing passengers re-booked by NW?

IPA's statement is pretty hollow -- it's about as effective as the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers saying they won't haul struck goods.

Struck work is whatever the workgroup does as part of their job description, and with mechanics, that' fixing the aircraft, not loading or transporting goods.

Remember that Nicholson and the Independent Pilots' Association are dealing from a very strong hand so they can afford the grandstanding.

The UPS pilots are engaged in high-profile contact negotiations and are placing ads in industry publications and constantly issuing PR statements. If I were them I would too -- UPS Air Cargo is booming and they should use every tactic to obtain a better paycheck. You would too.

Those UPS pilots could care less about the fate of NWA. They are just using your distress for their own advantage.

Don't get too excited here folks.

The only place solidarity exists is in Europe.
The USA is to full of the I GOT MINE mentality
We are our own worst enemy. No one is willing to go out on a limb even if it is for the better of us all.
That is the sad truth.

Although the boyz at JFK did a good job a few years back. I was working my second job at Kennedy aftter leaving LGA at 7 AM and going over to JFK. I never saw so many silver tails in my life. They were all over the airport had to be at least 30  dead aircraft. I wish I had taken some pictures.

I have been saying the same thing for quite some time, our country is in a moral decline and no one really seems to care unless it impacts them personally. The Great Men And Women who sacrificed so much coming to these shores in order to build a Great Nation would surely hang their heads in shame if they could see what is happening to the "TRUE SPIRIT OF AMERICA"

Do you honestly believe that the pilots of cargo aircraft have any idea or care what is in the cargo holds?

When was the last time you saw a pilot, on the ramp, inspecting the baggage as it was loaded. If you believe the above statement you are a bunch of fools.

Cute, real cute. Here we are (IPA) defending fellow union members and all you can do is jump on the corporate bandwagon and bash another union that is trying to help the cause of the working man. Sounds to me you've swallowed the hook, line and sinker cast out by management. I'd like to point out that the IPA effectively ended the Teamsters Canada strike several months ago by telling UPS that since Canadian packages come through our domestic sort, we would not be flying anything unless we were sure it wasn't struck goods. Guess what, the company settled with the Teamsters the next day. If you want to be an effective union, act like one. <_<

Chuck, you may have been around this BB since almost the beginning but you obviously are not aware that Former ModerAAtor is well known to be AA management and openly posts as such.

But I agree with the posts that say your union statement of "set the brakes" is pure grandstanding. You would never know what might have been NW cargo. And you also know it would then just go over to FedEx domestic or if international to FedEx, DHL or another competing cargo carrier.
