Jim,
You have a real opportunity here to look like a real labor union leader-don't squander it. Many of the TWU locals have demonstrated already that they are good union people. Why must the locals lead the leadership?
Release a press release or message supporting the working men and women on strike at NWA. Don't mention AMFA, we don't give a crap, but throw your support to working people who are not afraid to fight for themselves. Urge fellow TWU members not to fly NWA or cross the picket lines. You can do it!
The mechanics and cleaners at NWA are going to win. How do you want to be remembered when the strike is over? As a luke warm union man or a labor leader who used his authority to influence his members into behaving as true union people.
It also wouldn't hurt if you apologized for the Job Fair at MCI and the actions of the local knuckleheads (TWU 530 I believe) that allowed a head hunter to come in and recruit scabs.
