Quite possibly.

Also consider a Mark Twain quote: "A lie makes it halfway around the world before the truth gets his boots on".

It's all about sheer volume. 25 posts of X is more likely to make an impression on more people, especially laymen, than 4 or 5 ripostes of X...especially if the targeted reader of X is a come and go casual viewer and not one intently following the issue.
