TWU Tough Talk

Well at least the headline was right. "Americans union".

All this "tough talk" is a scam by the TWU and AA to get AA their two year extension.

The TWU will talk tough, but not do anything, about getting everything back until some crisis comes along and the TWU rams through another concessionary deal, probably for another 6 years in order to "save jobs".

Has the TWU started putting out information on all their bulletin boards highlighting how much we have given the company in addition to the $120,000 they took from each and every one of us? NO.

Have they informed the members how the company can easily manipulate figures such as casms and operating costs simply by the timing of capital investments(such as Goldhoffers and winglets), loan payoffs, writedowns etc? NO

Has the TWU highlighted the fact that even if fuel eats up the extra $5 billion a year they pulled in last year the 40,000 less employees gives the company the ability to pay us more than what we gave up.

Most of the figures we see are from the company. Spun by the company and left unchallenged by the TWU.

The company has a new website dedicated to spewing their side on our negotiations, the TWU has nothing to counteract that.

The fact is it had just become too obvious that the TWU was in the company's pocket so they had to issue some "tough talk".

In the meantime talks will drag on, the union will claim its because they are fighting for us, and our wages will continue to decline.

In the meantime the TWU with all their so-called togh talk will still be collecting their under the table $3million a year from AA.

You see, negotiations with the TWU are a farce because after all the other figures are said and done all the company has to do is throw one figure out there and "negotiations" are over. $3.1 million is the magic number.

Do you think the Presidents of 18 of the 21 locals that could not afford to pay them want to go back on the floor and actually work under this contract? Look at Local 562s President John Iuliano for example. He has weekends and holidays off. Collects a paycheck from AA without even stepping foot on AA property and on top of that collects an extra $20k a year. Without the company paycheck the local could not afford to grant him that. All he has to do, which he does, is whatever the International tells him to do, look how well its worked out for Gless, Burchette, Connelly and Gordon.

Look at the concessions of 2003 and compare it to "the Vermont Plan". The company got everything with one big exception "$3.1 million in Company paid Union Business".

Tough talk. Yea right, dont buy it, if we want to get anything out of this company and its lapdog union we had better start a drive to get rid of the TWU and get a real union. The TWU will talk tough, not do anything, tell us not to do anything, and let things drag out for two or more years before they come out with another crap deal then blame you the members claiming that they "fought" because thats what you wanted. In the meantime they will be collecting their uncut TWU salaries and their kickbacks from AA. In the meantime AA will still be pulling in the cash off our labor.

I'm not sure where you've gotten your misinformation re: bankruptcy laws but there is not, nor ever was, any criteria regarding the financial condition of any Chapter 11 filer with regard to whether or not they could seek protection under the law. The way the law read pre October 2005 and post October 2005, a company in excellent finacial condition could/can file for protection. That's why I got such a charge out of the dog and pony show and the confidentiality agreements signed when the unions involved got a 'peek' at the company's books. There was no need to display the balance sheet to know what was/is in the US Code, Chapter 11.

There are, however, numerous new restrictions in the 'new' law that knocks some wind from the execs sails; payment of retention (read failure) bonuses is one of more executive unfriendly modifications that makes it less profitable for the management to file.

Fix your link, though - I would like to read it.

I'm not sure how to fix the link? I've tried a few times. What it is though is a list of the new bankruptcy law from 05. It's not that AA can't find a way to drag it into the courts it's just like you said the courts aren't friendly to exec's through the process anymore. And I'm sure the shareholders would have something to say if AA didn't sell off Eagle and Advantage first. So i just don't see bankruptcy.

Hey Bob have you ever thought about starting a grassroots movement to get those facts and figures out to the members? Maybe also get a copy over to Mike Chiofalo at Local 501 since I hear he may be at the head of the negotiating comitee for fleet since Mark Nelson at 513 was voted out. At least it would be a clear message to the Intl. that some of us know what's going on with AA's lies!

Thats what I use this for.

Chiafalo!? He is the last person you can count on. From what I hear local 501s treasury is missing millions of dollars and he may end up in the pokey. Besides he is so far up Littles behind if Little opened his mouth wide you would see Chiafolos face! The last thing that Little wants to do is give the members facts.

Hey just letting you know what I heard. My info could be wrong but that's what he said, Chiafalo.

Yes. I breathed a little easier after that passed.
