AA may have more aircraft, but UPS is a larger company with three times more employees and substantially higher revenues.
And yet their mechanics make way more than the rest of us.......because why?

I know this is going off topic, but are the AMT's at UPS lumped together with truck drivers, dispatchers, and the people who load the trucks?

No, they have their own local ( 2727) for all A&P mechanics and related nation wide. The officers on down of the local are UPS mechanics. It's like their own little AMFA inside of the ibt.

But the ibt will not let UAL have their own local. They keep UAL separated between the truck drivers and part time meat packers. They even go as far as having the maintenance base at SFO divided between 2 locals. One in SFO and the other at LAX.

You
'D have to check their entire package to determine where they value may come from. To compare solely the hourly compensation doesn't really give a true picture of their total compensation.

Because they farm out all heavy maintenance, thats why.

Anyone know how many mechanics per plane they have?

So because UPS farms out their heavy maintance it's free? I bet where ever they farm it out to charges them.

What is the responsibility of a union?

To make jobs or represent members for safe working environment and pay/benefits?

I'm willing to bet during the 20s the union leaders didn't say "hey let's offer less pay and benefits so we can have more union members"

I bet jimmy Hoffa what not have negotiated a raise based on what a non union labor shop gets.

A union should set the standard not follow what a union free company GIVES it's employees, or why else do we need a union.

You're correct, my mistake. It is the other AMFA represented airline...Alaska.
No prob NY.  I don't think comparoes should be in contracts.  It limits the total outcome in the long run, why limit anything?  JMO...

So, by your reasoning, if the new AA decided to do 100% of their heavy work, mechanics would be making minimum wage?

So,,,,,,,,,,,Then by this little case cracking info, I would say that the DL mechanics should be making the same, if not more as the SW mechanics!
Going over the work performed by SW over other airlines has now gotten to the point of redundancy. It has been discussed numerous times on this forum and is consistently ignored by those who prefer not to understand that business structure since it doesn't fit the agenda.

Absolutely if all OH and Title 2 were farmed out to lower cost vendors then line mechanics would be earning substantially more than they currently do.

One member on this forums page was the only one to admit that he would like to see that happen and while I may not agree with that line of thinking I did applaud his honesty.
