"Teamsters to Challenge IAM as airline merge"

The way I feel right now I want the IAM off US Airways property entirely, for my own personal safety.

Frankly 700UW I wonder seriously if when I come home to PHL if I'll be the next one beaten by the IAM thugs based on my remarks here. When I came home last night and then went out again this morning I was very aware of my surroundings and everytime I saw a ramp or mech uniform I watched that person quite closely. I am not real excited at the prospect of my company's money going to pay thugs.
Talk about over dramatic.

There a few thousand IAM members at US and 25 made a poor choice.

Don't be a drama king.

Bob,

The ibt leads all unions above and beyond in violence as delldude has shown

And the last time I checked you were a passenger not an employee nor a union member, so what you say or do does not matter in the outcome.

IAM vs TWU is that way. This topic is about IBT vs IAM. I know it is hard to keep the union battles separate, but let's at least try.

So 7 are you saying that the action of the "tip of the ice berg" group was justified......because "others are doing it"? (Note: the "tip of the ice berg" reference indicated that these 25 lawless criminals are only a visible portion of the whole problem)

Has anyone heard from the allegany people that have been decertified? It would be best to hear their side of the story. I'm sure you speak for them 7. :)

How do you know it is the tip of the iceberg?

I see you are making things up again.

Decertification happened twice on the US Group property because of the ibt.

Don't let the facts get in your way.

25 in my home airport. PHL in general has a history of union violence so my fears are well founded.

Neverminding that several of them were IAM leaders apparently.

I also stand by my statement regarding the actions of the IAM thugs and their removal along with the rest of the IAM representation. The ramp deserves better, so do the mechs.

IAM OUT!

Bob, when you look at real men it scares that crap out of you. Your world are these boards and that says it all. The IAM has “MENâ€￾ in it and that excludes your sorry a-z-z

LOL....did you lose a bet or something smo..... :)

7 the fact is that the IAM could not keep those members. You would really like to blame the TEAMSTERS for your loses, but it was because of your IAM that they lost them. Its the IAM's fault that 5 people were beaten and two of whom may lose the sight in one eye, because of the beatings. You must be proud to pass the blame for the IAM's problems to others. :)

Let me educate you.

US Fleet was not IAM at the time of the PI/US merger, US was ibt at BOS, BUF, PHL and PIT, after the merger the ibt wanted the whole system got an election and end result everyone was non-union. And to top it off the four ibt stations made less money when they were union when they were non-union.

Second the ibt forced the election at the newly merged Piedmont/Allegeheny, not the IAM and the ibt failed as well.

And please explain to me how it is 600,000 members fault that a band of renegades acted with their own actions, not the IAM's?

Yes 7 the IAM failed to keep its members. Forced a vote.....I think it is call a "showing of interest". Don't let your facts hide the truth.

600,000 or 6 the IAM is the IAM. If one of those "thugs" used his fist to strike some one, do we just blame his fist for the act. That is your mentality 7. :)

Teamsters Announce They Have Met Card Signature Threshold Needed to Schedule Union Representation Vote

(Washington, DC) – US Airways mechanics from the airline’s Phoenix, Las Vegas and Charlotte sites rallied at the company’s headquarters in Tempe and in front of the US Airways terminal at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport to kick off a union election campaign to make the Teamsters their bargaining representative for the approximately 6,300 mechanics and related employees at the newly merged airline. Pro-Teamster workers have gathered enough employee signatures to easily meet the threshold required by law to file for an election.

“Cards have poured in,†said Don Treichler, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. “US Airways mechanics know that the Teamsters bring great contracts and strong representation for airline mechanics. Teamster contracts at Continental, UPS, AirTran and Frontier have set an industry standard for airline mechanics. These mechanics deserve the same strong representation, especially in this case where crucial workplace rights are at stake. In particular, under a Teamster contract they will retain 100 percent of their seniority.â€

America West Airlines and US Airways merged to form the fifth-largest air carrier in the country in late September. The Teamsters represent about 900 mechanics at former America West sites, while the International Association of Machinists (IAM) represents about 5,400 at the original US Airways sites, according to company records.

The mechanics’ key issues are outsourcing of heavy maintenance work, job security, seniority, and their right to a voice in their union and workplace – as well as major giveaways in the IAM contract, bargained with US Airways under bankruptcy conditions.

“This election is about two major goals,†said Andy Marshall, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 104 in Phoenix, Arizona. “First, the Teamsters have a deep commitment to protecting the former America West mechanics we already represent. Second, we believe we can do a lot better for those mechanics currently under the IAM contract. Under the IAM contract, their pensions have been wiped out, their sick leave has been cut, and now they can’t take vacation. My heart really goes out to them. What we can win for them will be a night-and-day contrast. The choice for mechanics is clear, and we believe that in a free election they will vote for the Teamsters.â€

Today’s deadline for card filing was set following a National Mediation Board decision on January 30, 2006, that declared that America West and US Airways were now operating as a single airline and a union election could proceed.

Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States and Canada
