Signing off an 'A' check

I heard they fired a supervisor in DFW for "signing off" 'A' checks. What does that mean? Does it mean that maintenance checks are being "pencil whipped" by AA management? :shock: :shock:

If this is true then yes "A Checks" are being signed off or pencil whipped as we know the term. One possibility is that AA has more work than AMT's can perform in order for AA to make schedule. One suggestion is park more aircraft or recall more AMT's. It is obvious that AA has reached the breaking point. We need more AMT's if AA is to continue on their current schedule. Typically the summer schedule is the heaviest. Wait and see what happens in a few months.

There use to be an old Oil Filter commercial on TV, that is relevant to this thread.
(It went like this);

"You can PAY Now...or you can "PAY" LATER !!!

NH/BB's

The supervisor got a "career decision day" and is back at work. Rumor has it he will be reassigned from the hanger to the line.. UNLESS the FAA was involved, it's impossilble to get fired from this company.

I've come to that conclusion too. I heard someone got fired years ago for stealing a sandwich off an airplane, but pencil whipping aircraft maintenance is overlooked. Scary. Flying AA is such a "crap shoot".

I was told last night that they changed the tire limits on the 0922 card. They have been changed to through trip limits 25% cord is good to go. Watch for more tire changes throughout the day

:D

"crap shoot"????? Then don't fly AA...We don't want your busniess. I take pride in the fact that every aircraft I and my co-workers maintain is as safe as we can make it. If not, it DOES NOT FLY. "Pencil whipping" does happen, at EVERY airline, AA's planes are as safe to fly as any other major, maybe more so since we still do our own overhaul- until the TWU farms that out as well-. I would put my family on any AA maintianed aircraft and not think twice about iT. So, unless you work for AA, fly someone else. Grayhound jumps to mind.

No, it's not impossible to get fired -- AA manages to fire one supervisor a month between line, TUL, and fleet service.

Do you know for a fact he pencil whipped the card, or is that just floor-talk?

I think this is more about losing his temper and going off on upper management then allegedly pencil whipping. The increased work load, lack of parts and A/C that are more broke because of TWA style of maintaining A/C rather then the AA way of maintaining A/C is starting to take its toll. (No a fence to any TWA AMT’s).

Yes I do work for AA and I see first hand the stuff that goes on during midnight shift. D&D if you know what I mean. I also take pride in my work and love what I do, but I get tired of having to do a job my co-worker could have done the night before but deferred it. There's always the next guy. IGM.

That will get you the career decision day in management. There's a right way and wrong way to disagree - if you keep your cool and your wits, dissent won't get you into trouble. If you lose your temper and go into a rant, it's over.

I agree.
