It would be ironic to see both the B's back at US, and you are right, DCMS, they would be a welcome improvement from the "brain" trust currently running the place.

The problem is that I don't see any need for US to acquire NK. They don't need the airplanes, and US is already established in just about every NK market... it does not make sense.

What I have heard through the grapevine is that US and UA will merge, which is no surprise. What scares me for all my friends at UA, however, is that supposedly US is the acquiring carrier and that Dougie and company would be running the show. That cannot happen....they are over their heads now...can you picture the fiasco which would ensue if THEY were in charge of a US/UA combination?????

US/AA??? Nah...AA is way to smart than to go anywhere near this train wreck... (no offense to the fine men and women on the front line).

MAYBE US/F9????? Then again it doesn't make much sense.....but then again stranger things have happened......

No, as good as I think I am at picturing the worst possible outcome, I cannot imagine how bad it would be with DP, Kirby, and their ilk running UA/US. A merger between the the carrirers would be great but only only only if the Sand Castle would not wind up running things.

This is going to be a little hard to choke out, but here it goes:

BRING BACK STEPHEN WOLF

Hack, choke , hack ......... There I said it.

At least when Wolf was running the show most people had pride in their job and the airline.

Who would be the best CEO for LCC ? If in fact it is a CEO change..............which I doubt.

I kind of thought NK but only for the South Florida-South/Central America gain. It sometimes feels like Tempe is trying to turn us into what NK has turned into.

But on the F9 note, it kind of struck me the other day with all of the US/UA talk and F9 going into BK (since Doug seems to like those in Ch. 11) that maybe a 3-way US/UA/F9 combo could somehow work. Using most of the newer AB equipment of F9 to replace the older baby Boeings and at the same time reclaiming DEN and bringing a nice widebody order to UA. Could build on the DH4 order from Lynx and hopefully get a solid route network in order. Not sure what such a combo would mean for PHL/DCA/PHX/LAS/LAX/SFO though. Something would have to give with the PHL/DCA/IAD mix on the East coast and on the West coast with LAS being downsized and PHX and LAX and then SFO and LAX all being so close together, then again DEN and PHX are pretty close too.

Then again I really like Frontier, they're a fantastic airline who've come a long way and I hope that they can somehow pull through this without being ripped apart. Then again in the last 2 weeks alone we've lost 2 historic and wonderful airlines in TZ and AQ so I guess anything could happen at this point.

A greatest service a UAL merger would do is the elimination of the failure of qik/shares and the incompetence of the Beery led IT department , both of which would disappear. As Hdqtrs would remain in ORD , how likely is it that the sandfleas would move? Even if DP reamined on top , it is really who is under him that matters and I believe most would be UAL and would certainly not follow the HP example of failure , and poor decision making. They may not necessarily be great , but they almost have to be an improvement on what we presently have. A merger with either Spirit or Frontier brings nothing except aircraft and a few cities more. A UAL merger would probaly see a downsize of LAS and PHX and a restructuring of the DCA/IAD/PHL ops. Like it or not the O/D market for PHL is much greater than IAD. We alone carry more int'l in PHL that all airlines combined in IAD. PHL int'l could be expanded with a reduction in domestic and express. Why tie up PHL airspace with crj's. Use it for widebodies to Europe and the far east.

Why downsize IAD/DCA/PHL? U already gave up BWI in order to pass muster with DOJ for the next UA merge attempt. The govt has no argument as to anti-trust.

Not a downsize , but more of a realignment to take greater advantage of the population density/ passenger base. A better mix of the correct aircraft for the market , less dependence on express carriers. Wouldn't less express and more mainline be a better thing? I wouldn't reduce any flying in the NE , just change who is doing it. The NE is still where the majority of the passengers live and that's where the money is , so use a more intelligent method of use aircraft useage to take better advantage of that. Have the express carriers do more to earn their keep and pay more of their own bills. Stop guaranteeing them a profit no matter how good or bad they operate and treat our passengers. If they had more a vested interest in how well they performed that might be enough incentive to improve their operations. Enforce a single across the board set of uniform policies and proceedures for both mainline and express in all depts, so we all speak in one voice with one set of rules covering all operations. No different sets of standards ,all held to the same company wide one , mainline, express(wholely owned or affiliated). Clear expectations and standards.

I heartily support more mainline, less contract carriers. I can't understand how it is more profitable for U to pay for operating the contract carriers and guarantee a 8% profit to boot.
Standardization to a high level of service would be a good thing, too.

If we were to merge with UA I'd say, "Get ready for party cups and screw cap wine on your 747's. They'd keep the HQ in Tempe....don't you KNOW that it's THE place. Oh the horrors. So some are certain about this upcoming announcement huh?

Keeping HQ's in Tempe would the stupidest thing ever done by Dougie. It will be Chicago. Chicago would be the center of Ops. Also Chicago is a "Business" City. Sandcastle realized how hard it is to run things from there, that's why they built a sub-station in Philly. Merging with UA would say bye to LAS, downsizing of PHX. And that will end PHX chances at any International service. SFO and LAX will control the West, PHL and IAD both would remain Int'l and main city feeders. Charlotte will become the ATL of its system. DCA most likely have to give up PHX and LAS routes. The only way PHX stays open, is to be a TED base. I said above that PHL and IAD would both be Int'l Gateways, I see them keeping both, but the primary will be IAD. That's my 10 Cents worth!

We will buy Frontier and Jetblue. American will swallow up Airtran and Alaska. Of course DL and NW will merge, CO and UA. Hmmm? Sounds perfect. :D
