US to announce the new PHX-LHR route using A330's
  Oh my goodness. They can't even find an airplane to fly to Asia and it's right around the corner. London Ontario on the 320 maybe. Any new int'l service you see will be out of PHL where the $$ and people are. Besides, I don't think there are any 330's on the market cheap enough for this Yahoo Cracker management to even ATTEMPT to go after.

Doesn't BA run a PHX-London route? If so, I can't see US trying to take on BA

Why not? They do one flight a day in the evening.

I could see US doing an early morning or mid afternoon flight, and if something happens, we can always cattle prod people 20 feet to BA haha!

Believe it or not, we in phx can handle a big aiw-pwane and passenguuus....

Once again we don't have any extra airplanes. If and when we DO get new widebody a/c they will be in PHL first. If they find a spare a/c you may see some int'l out of PHX. Until then it will be PHX to PHL then connect to the world. It seems to be the US way of thinking.

N965VJ,

there is truth and then there is Absolute Truth. One is in black and white the other is blurred......

As I said before 2 to 3 per ..., BUT US is hardly out of the running. Many of the predicitons here are based upon the way things look right now. Factor in what I alreay posted and it doesn't matter how large you are, but instead where the majority of your flights are originating or flying to...(western Canada, western usa)with this in mind WN is out...and also because their business model works in an economic environment that is comprised of haves and have nots...doesn't work so well when most everyone is a have not.

Can HP handle a 747, since that is what BA uses? I think the 330 might disappoint in the performance area, but, with all the concessions available, leave it to Tempe to throw money away and try it anyway, sigh.

Yes, the former ATA B757-200s are ETOPS, all delivered between 95 and 98, the B757-300s are ETOPS all delivered in 03.
Are you saying that the company is trying to pick up these aircraft or just that you are speculating? It would sure be nice if that were true. I know that there are 3 TZ 752's parked on the ramp in PHX by the executive terminal but they have been there since they ceased operations.

The answer to your question is yes. HP was contracted to work the ramp and customer service for British Airways from the inauguration of their PHX-London service in June of 1996 through 2001. HP handled not only the 747-400 (and they used HP equipment for everything under the wing), but also the DC-10-30, the 777 and the Concorde when it was flown here bi-annually for Cunard charters.

In addition to British Airways, HP ramp also worked the 767-300s and MD-11s for LTU when they flew weekly service to Dusseldorf and later worked the same 767-300s for Hawaiian Airlines. All of the aforementioned carriers used a baggage container loading system, pallets, etc., and the Phoenix ramp does have the ground equipment for such operations.

The day of their bankruptcy there were 5 TZ 757s (one -300 and four -200s), then by the next day there were only the four -200s. When I left for my trip on Saturday the 12th, they were down to three. When I got back from my trip early this morning there were only two -200s left. They are slowly disappearing, to where they are going is anybody's guess!

Honeywell has also parked their Boeing 720B (sans elevators and radome) over there. Maybe Dougie and Scott will pick that one up instead!!
