Rumors are flying that Delta will announce it will open Miami as its new International Gateway. We will see if it comes true as 3/09/07 seems to be the anticipated announcement date. Heres a link to some of the rumors

Yes, it would be nice to see MIA beefed up. Some new routes to Europe would be most excellent. We'll see...

To wake up at JFK and to add service at MIA, AA needs aircraft. With no additional a/c coming anytime soon , expansion at either hub would be at the expense of other hubs. STL may be the casualty

Oh, AA's got aircraft. All they have to do is reduce DFW's schedule by 5% without a viable competitor at DFW, there's no risk in doing that. Plus, DFW is too damn big for its own good already. Move some of the aircraft to MIA, ATL or JFK, and it will get interesting...

Delta's Expansion in Latin America Continues With New Daily Nonstop Service From Fort Lauderdale to Santo Domingo

ATLANTA, March 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines is continuing its rapid expansion to Latin America and the Caribbean with two new gateways for travel between the United States and two of the hottest destinations in the region. Effective June 7 and June 9, respectively, Delta will add service between Fort Lauderdale and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic* and between Los Angeles and Belize City, Belize*.

With its summer schedule, Delta plans to offer Santo Domingo customers a total of 21 weekly flights -- seven to New York-JFK, seven to Atlanta, and seven to Fort Lauderdale, complementing 28 other flights from U.S. gateways to Puerto Plata, Santiago and Punta Cana. Santo Domingo, the second-most populated city in the Antilles region, is located in the south of the country at the shores of the Caribbean Sea, and is the prime driver of the Dominican Republic's growing popularity as a beachgoer's paradise.

Meanwhile, with the addition of new flights between Los Angeles and Belize, Delta and Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines will offer nine weekly flights from Belize City, with daily service to Atlanta (twice on Saturdays) and once weekly to Los Angeles. Belize is a favorite ecotourism destination known for its lush jungles and famous for having the second longest barrier reef in the world.

Very anti-climating. Puts a strike against the MIA rumours. One thing, however. Notice the ground time for the 738 in Ft. Lauderdale? It sits on the ground for ten hours (and it doesn't turn around to Atlanta or JFK either. Those flights make quick, 1 hour turn-arounds). Something is up here...

This is clearly a message to Spirit Airlines and their new "ultra LCC" model and baggage fees. FLL-SDQ is NK's busiest international route, with four dailies this summer.

the DL June schedule is pretty much still 'default' in that the times, fligt numbers, and equipment haven't been changed to reflect the 'final' schedule.
