ROC-BOS

Seems like a smart move...perhaps pre-empting B6 from making a move like they made in Buffalo. If nothing else, FL beat them to the punch. It will be interesting to see if US responds at ROC the same way that they did at BUF, by jumping up from 3x to 7x a day.

I'm just waiting for Chapter 12 to start the rant that FL is flooding the market with over capacity ... I give it till tomorrow.... B)

Oh, don't be such a cynic. I'm sure that US was planning to more than double its BUF-BOS flights long before B6 decided to fly that route. I'm sure US was also planning to do the same thing in ROC - they just didn't have a chance to get around to the announcement yet.

Couple of thunderstorms, and BOS should be interesting this summer, huh? ;)

Then again, BOS is always interesting, ad far as air traffic is concerned.

Will AirTran (and JetBlue) be able to "kick" US Airways in the groin on these new routes? Looks like these carriers are testing Doug Parker, expecting (hoping for) merger problems.

IMHO I don't think that is FL's motive. I feel they are offering an alternative service instead of mixing it up with B6 and US. There should be enough market share to accommodate both even though BUF and ROC are close to one another. Of course there are others around here that seem to think anywhere within 50 miles is theirs and if anyone sets foot close, they are saturating the skies. Oh well.. Welcome to Business 101. As Junior Johnson (old time Nascar builder ) once said... "Ye who cheats the best wins"... B)

BUF and ROC are very distinct markets. FL isn't launching its ROC-BOS service to compete with B6's new BUF flights. FL doesn't seem very interested in expanding its presence in BUF, but it will soon have six non-stop destinations from ROC. I'm sure this move is to pre-empt B6 from offering new ROC-BOS flights next.

I wonder what the response will be from both US and B6 in ROC. I also wonder if SYR is next on the B6 list for new BOS flights. B6 seems to want to dominate New York state the way that US has in the past. Traditionally, these routes are heavily traveled and an important profit center for US.

JetBlue has a chance of becoming THE airline for upstate NY, just as US Air have been and still is. Higher yields markets, and that's what we're all looking for.

JetBlue has the right aircraft, and they are receiving a "ton" of these. This will be an interesting fight
between JetBlue and US Airways.

(Sorry about the thread creep.)

Anyone know how AirTran is doing on the ROC-BOS route?

PS Rumor has it that jetBlue is going to start SYR-BOS. (This comment meant for Flying Titan).

SL -
Like you, I'm curious how the new ROC-BOS and BUF-BOS flights are doing. Those will probably go a long way toward determing whether B6 will do SYR-BOS.

I believe B6 would have already started ROC-BOS if FL hadn't beatem them to the punch. I'm surprised that US isn't putting up more of a fight on these routes (i.e. - larger RJs, some sort of promotion/incentives). Other fish to fry, I guess.

I looked at tomorrows bookings and it was not impressive, but then again, it is Wednesday.

Yes, bookings would not be very high from the ROC, SYR, BUF's to BOS...More of a business market, hence a higher yield market and something US Airways has made lots of $$$ over the years...(Certainly beats flying full flights to FLA and loosing money to boot. This latter might have changed within the last year or so.)

Still, will AirTran (and jetBlue) stay in these markets and compete effectively against LCC?
