Shortly after entering office the PHL Reps distributed an unofficial LOA 91 “talking point†paper that was filled with inaccurate information. In response the MEC Communication Committee responded on the April 14 #2 code-a-phone message, “Emails with false and misleading information about proposed LOA 91 have been circulating among the pilot group disguised as authentic MEC material. Please do not be misled by this mis-information campaign. Genuine MEC materials discussing LOA 91 are being prepared and will be provided to you prior to the LOA 91 road shows,†the code-a-phone said.
On June 11 the PHL Reps distributed a council update where the LEC Reps purposely misrepresented information regarding the recent Wilson Poll, creating false furlough information that was characterized as a “reckless innuendo†and breaching MEC confidentiality.
In a June 14 email to the Reps, ALPA Communications Committee Chairman Jack Stephan wrote, “For the record, the term "furlough" is not used in the May 17 Confidential Company Presentation and our Negotiating Committee (the pollsters you refer to) and most of the MEC were in favor of deleting any reference to any confidential/"substantial" number. To also suggest that our Negotiating Committee was trying to lead our pilots to a predetermined path in their questioning is a “reckless innuendoâ€, Stephan wrote to the Council Reps.
Stephen also said that the Council Reps were free to distribute his comments.
Stephen continued, “The MEC has been warned on many occasions as to the serious consequences to breaches of confidentiality. That issue is absent in your recent missive to the Council 41 (Phiadelphia) pilots.â€
On June 18 in open session, MEC Chairman Bill Pollock publicly scolded the PHL Reps for additional confidentiality breaches because a PHL line pilot called the MEC office and asked Jeff Small, ALPA’s contract administrator and a lawyer, questions about confidential information. Small then asked the pilot who provided him with the information and he was told it was Captain Rep John Crocker. What’s discouraging about this latest confidentiality breach is that Stephan warned the PHL Reps about confidentiality breaches and these men continued with their dishonest actions.
In three short months in office, the PHL Council 41 Reps have had three scoldings and warnings from the MEC for confidentiality breaches and purposely providing false information.
