Profit made

Between UPNAWAY and Malikie I can't nail down which one is worse. Absolutely horrid and NO knowledge of what had beed given up to keep this place running to even merge. Simply horrid people you two are. It's like posting with Michelle Bachman and Sara Palin.

And if employees had to give all those concessions to "save the company" can we turn it around and say if the employees and their unions would have gone with
reasonable wages instead of needing industry leading wages would the old US Airways been in the position it was in?

I guess your trying to play devils advocate. However, someone should point out to you that the wages and benefits that these employees have are a result of negotiations. Negotiations are suppose to be a two way street of give and take. Do you honestly believe your company signed off on wages they did not believe they could pay? Not very likely!! Where are you getting those industry leading numbers by the way?

Yet Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are supposedly educated .....completely insane nevertheless educated

Completely scary - but the type of mentality at the "new" America West....I mean USAirways

You may be closer than you think..at least on one count....

I'm a great fan of all of them! Really, I love you guys!

You'll appreciate this Art. A few years back in one of the company rags someone sent in a note about morale. The response was something like, it must be OK, look at the performance stats we are producing! It didn't stay up long...........................

Quote MALIKIE---"All you union people want to go back to the good old days and have high wages and put the company back into BK. Well it's not going to happen."

Hmmm... that's the same argument that is being made to the entire middle working class of America. It's not the fault of the super rich Corporate Owners and CEO's who continue to gain compensation and/or benefits is it?

No... it's those lowly middle class American Workers who insist on a living wage and benefits that will actually support families that can use the services and/or products of the institutions that the CEO's represent!

Thank God for China!

Your song is getting old as well Malikie, or are you just another mismanagement apologist as well. Every airline has fees, we accept that. Most others, however, exempt their best customers from many of them, which this crew does not.
So you're willing to accept the fees as long as they don't charge you?

I do accept the fees. I have bought, yes bought, full fare tickets to get from point a to point b to ensure I had a seat to get back to work ontime and I did pay the fees. It is part of the travel experience now and not new so get over it.

As for the specualtion I might be Doug or Scott I am not. I am just an employee who has an opinion on unions.

No, I have paid fees personally. What I don't accept is this company charging elites fees which are waived by their competitors for their best customers. It has more to do with the disdain Tempe apparently has for their high volume customers, as well as the employees.

I get that the fare structure is broken, probably beyond repair. Nothing short of re regulation will fix that. I do have a fundamental objection to nickel and diming customers, however, especially when it obscures the true cost of travel. To charge a flyer who travels once a year for a better seat is more understandable than charging one who spends $20k or more a year with you....other airlines get that and are far better run and more profitable than US. I wonder why.

It's also kind of scary when the entire profit is roughly equal to the amount collected in these ancillary fees...further proof of how airlines in general would all be losing money without them...this is the only industry where you can sell your product at a loss and not face federal charges of dumping...but that's another story..

I am an employee and do not feel the company hinders my job or thinks of me less. But then I am not part of a union. look at the two groups, union and non union, why are the non union employees content and happy with things and the union groups are unhappy misrable?

because the union employee is reminded daily of how overpaid and useless we are by people like you. why do you have such hatred for unions? does it not sit well with you that people organize together for the improvement to all, rather than suck your way up for your own personal gain?

Since you proclaim to being non-union I'll take you at your word. For the purpose of answering your question I'll assume you are in a front line supervisory roll, which by definition makes you a Manager. The Graphic below is helpful in answering your question.

When an employee is underpaid in the free market it tends not to do wonders for morale. Starting CSR IIRC is $8.72/Hr which is less than Wendy's start's folks out in run down Muskegon, MI. Same for ramp at $9.59/Hr. Where I live most temp agencies pay $12.50/Hr for light industrial.

Couple the above with the fact that WN pays it's people as much as 30% more & are more profitable, more respected and have a reputation as a very good place to work. Did you notice how fast their Pilot Integration with Air Tran is going. Notice how well US's Leadership has handled theirs?

Also take note that WN's CEO's past and present have never spent a night in jail, never have been rumored to have misbehaved on an International Flight.

Truth is by any measurable benchmark, Southwest beats US Airways nearly every time!

I guess you dont realize the unionized employees gave back $1.2 billion per year in concessions during the first chapter 11 and much more in the second.

Dave failed, it wasnt the employees fault, the employees on the east back then saved the company, so Dave could walk away with $6 million in cash and lifetime flying benefits, off the backs of the employees and retirees.

Better go educate yourself on history, oh by the way we gave concessions back in 1992 to save the company the first time.

Dont let the facts get in your way.

Why is WN the highest paid, highest percentage of unionized employees and the most successful and profitable airline over the past 30 years?

Go educate yourself? I went through both Chapter 11 events and I can speak from a factual basis... Its the reason you and I have a job today... Forget about the past its gone forever. Want more money and better working conditions then make a differnce with your attitude or better yet you can always find a better company out there...... ?? No one will ever please attitudes like yours no matter what management team we have. I support Doug and his team and hope we survive. I make a difference each day I work. I wish I could say the same about all of our emnployees..
