This topic has been attempted a few times but always goes off on something completely unrelated. So here we go...

Is there currently any timeline for announcing where PIT only markets will receive service from, if at all?

Personally I'm concerned with TOL considering the destruction to U's marketshare here that Shuttle has done since 2002. If anyone has any insight, it would be appreciated (if need be, please message me privately).

you wont get any worthwhile replies here, people go off on other tangents here. trust me tried to ask here already , no worthwhile responses from all these people who know everythign!

I have to agree with airbiguy. I think will the fall schedule change we may have an idea of what markets US Airways will keep.

I think people are going off on tangents because they don't know the answers. And anybody who has answers isn't talking because it's subject to revision.

The various companies involved can't just dump EAS service, subsidized or not, without DOT's ok. They probably don't know how to schedule the small cities until UAIR figures out how the big cities will look. And UAIR can't figure that out until the pilots' agreement is amended, since it calls for certain numbers of aircraft and levels of utilization.

We're asking too soon - word will dribble out in late July and August.

i wonder if we're going to keep the pit abe flts as they are always either full or a very heavy load

Given ABE's mix of destinations, it might be better served with RJs to MCO. That city pair had an average of 72 passengers per day in 2003.

when we had the mco flt with a b-734 it went out average with 12 and 134 or whatever the full amount was. the pit flts are at or above 50 the max that our baby jets can hold i believe that they should give us back th mco flt it would do really well

While you are right about this, there may be some latitude to change the EAS service. About a year ago, CommutAir, a "Continental Connection" applied with the DOT to take-over EAS service to Jamestown, NY and Bradford, PA, and move it to CO's CLE hub instead of PIT. They did not win that application, but I suspect that the DOT will listen to suggestions.

I tend to agree that this is a topic of: Those who know, don't talk. Those who don't know, talk (a lot). I think we'll have to wait and see. I suspect word will begin to trickle out as EAS discussions begin, and localities and airport managers (and the local media in those small places) begin to learn about the news and scream to their congress-people.

IIRC, some of the EAS service to WV is approved to either IAD or PIT, at the airline's discretion... Perhaps with the codeshare and PHL's capacity problems, IAD is the new connection point for some of these cities if they keep their service?

If the PIT hub is going to be downsized, and the intent of the EAS service is to provide "viable air service" instead of just air service, then they should look at allowing the flights to whatever connecting city offers the best alternative. If IAD can offer nonstop service (even via codeshare) to more places than PIT, then it would be stupid (but this is the govt we're talking about) to make it stay to PIT.

As far as PHL service is concerned, I would think ANY move to get smaller aircraft out of PHL would be smart. Is it really productive to offer a 19 seat plane taking up valuable space in PHL when something larger could be offered from another city instead? Even with the RJS, if the majority of the connections could be offered via DCA/CLT/BOS, then why cram another plane in PHL unless there is sufficient O&D traffic to make it worthwhile? I know that there is going to be a need to get some International connections in there, but CLT is a viable option for many cities (except extreme NE) as far as connection opportunities from cities that now have RJS or props into PHL.

funguy, I remember that Commutair offer for Jamestown and Bradford - I think their subsidy request was about 10% higher than Colgan's (the DOT winner) and the cities even requested that the award go to Commutair because of LUV fare levels in CLE.

Then Air Midwest took their temporary subsidy and refused to turn the route over to Colgan.

Did Colgan ever get it????

Ther are no more 19 seat aircraft flying out of PHL anymore. This was discontinued last year when ACY service was dropped.

If i had to guess what is going to be kept in PIT this fall and after Id have to say...... PIT-LAX/SFO/LAS/SEA/BOS/DCA/LGA/FLL/RSW/MCO/TPA/ATL/MSY/ORD/FRA
Transatlantic Guy: I spoke with a Captain who flies International to FRA. He is #2 in Pit. He told me that after Sept. there is no more FRA out of PIT. He said he would be transferring to PHL probably. :(

I know someone has the answer to this question. Where is the database showing local boarding passengers by city pair located? I used to have it bookmarked before my computer went kaput, and now I cant find it. I get to the BTS site, but the searchable database isnt working for me for some reason (stupidity? ). Anyway, can someone point me in the right direction? I know its there somewhere....thanks.
