Pilots not allowed to have enough fuel?

i guess not , we live in different worlds ....

we will just have to agree to disagree , have a nice day!

Yep.. Don't take life so seriously. IF on nothing else..trust me on this much..You'll look back and laugh at your ever so direly disposed young self someday. You'll also be amazed at how much what you now "know" about life/the world/etc will be proven to be utter BS. It happens to almost everyone that sticks around for awhile...and it's actually an enjoyable process. ;) Take Care/Be Safe/Enjoy

let's not kid ourselves here ... i think most of the posters on here know what this full page ad was REALLY about .....
The ad was a notice to passengers that, despite overly enthusiastic efforts by management to "save" money by taking shortcuts, the pilots would stand firm and never leave with what they considered less than minimum fuel. All of my lawyer and stock broker neighbors got the message. Heck, even one gardener who barely speaks english got it. Why didn't you?

I imagine this latest attack on the line pilot had something to do with a vice-president, who, ironically, has demonstrated his lack of fuel consciousness by running out of fuel, twice, proving, once again, that some people really should not be in a cockpit. Perhaps he is projecting his guilt on others, in a round-about way. Unfortunately, his subsequent FAA mandated grounding allowed management to realize they had a "keeper" who could prevaricate with the best.

That may be, indeed, what the issue is about.

NOTHING that you've yet posted has anything to do with fuel management.

Nor do I have to. Fact is USAPA is expressing discontent because eight pilots had to attend a one day, paid training class. Management is well within its right to audit, review and, if necessary, train employees. This is true at any company, including airlines.

Interesting. It'd seem that your "pilot friend", initially so amazingly eager (as phantom friends might be) to point fingers at his/her imaginary "fellows"....has conveniently vanished, and it's now simply an issue of some/ANY "Management"s rights being infringed on? This just gets better by the moment...and here, I'd naeively thought the thread to be about fuel planning issues.....What's your agenda?

Thanks for proving my point. I was pointing out the stupidity of the pilots who are complaining about a one day training class that was in all likelihood justified, based on USAPA's press release.

No one is complaining about a training class. At issue is the premise for the class.

Accepting unsubstantiated inferences of wrong doing contained in a press releases is simply jumping to conclusions. Companies have many means at their disposal to investigate employees who are suspected of abusing their positions of responsibility. Floating accusations in a press release generally isn't viewed as productive.

.. opportunity has passed you by COMPLETELY ….

Umm.. OK, not to worry, the engines don't run on "opportunity". But if we have sufficient fuel for the flight, we can ask the next gate agent if he has some extra "opportunity" to spare.

Sure. And the FAA says the Captain can keep right on burning the fuel. So what's the point, exactly?

I don’t even think it’s stepping out on a branch to say that in 2009 we will most likely return to BK , and those of us who managed to get out of our BK agreements may end up back in them .
reality reminder from your friend freedom .

Which BK agreement were you under..........

Stock closed today..$2.87 up from $1.47 on 7/15/08 looks like a 100% increase in 3 days.

And the FAA said it is not a safety issue either, just internal politics, which when unions are involved usually means a bunch of %$%#^ing about nothing!

Ah..another cubicle-"pilot" speaks..It's now all settled  It may well shock you ..but..within my 2 ex-squadron mates/comrades within the FAA..they think this is entirely that given company's BS..and no one up there's going to touch any captain's authority issue with a ten foot pole...unless said BS continues...from any given company. The FAA will generally ignore whatever it possibly can..but..laws are laws...regs are regs...oh cubicle Captain.

West pilots = This "pic' is NO intended slight to you...just to the "Shake the Stick if You've Got It" cubicle crowd within your fine operation.

IT'S HAPPENING ALL THE TIME!!!

A friend of mine (allegedly)just worked ATH-PHL this week. They(allegedly) had to divert to BOS for fuel and apparently this has been(allegedly) happening all summer because (according to the Captain on that flight) they are being admonished and taken to task for requesting additional fuel(that may be needed due to weather or jet stream conditions)--allegedly. Additionally, on this flight previous years, during the heat of summer, there was a passenger load restriction that was necessary in order for the aircraft to make it from ATH-PHL without diverting for fuel. Well this year, the company has instead opted to fill the plane up and grab all the revenue it can and have the plane divert for fuel ---which it has many times this summer. Missed connections, angry passengers, pressured pilots, questionable safe-operation practices, additional takeoffs/landings........

When the pilots get the releases for their flights out of ATH they are often not even for ATH-PHL, rather they are for ATH-BGR or ATH-BOS(allegedly)..........

OH YEAH.....Tempe is full of GREAT IDEAS.....

Keep the revenue coming in......

( the above is just my opinion, I'm not in the mood for another Tempe requested "meeting" this week..)
