Rest assured, someone is reading this board. From today's about US:
Rumor has it...
A message board entry read: Someone said that Doug Parker has threatened to shut PHL down. I’ve also heard that they’re going to close the PHL US Airways Club, which may just be an offshoot of hub, but any truth to that one?
Fact or Fiction?
Closing hubs and clubs? We think not. But, just to be sure, we went straight to VP of Schedule Planning and Analysis Andrew Nocella to answer this rumor. Here’s his “On the Record†response:
The Philadelphia hub is among the highest revenue producing cities in the system. As a hub, it’s in a great place – in the midst of a densely populated area filled with people who are willing to come to the PHL airport to fly with US.
That being the case, you can bet your bottom dollar we’re not going to shut down a revenue stream, so Doug (or anyone, for that matter) does not plan to shut down the Philadelphia hub.
At the same time, the Philly hub needs some attention and we’ve already begun to provide that. We began with new equipment leading into the holidays. And a new leader – Tony Grantham – has taken over the station. Tony has a strong commitment to employees and a passion for great service.
In terms of the Club closing, the answer is a similarly emphatic NO. Philly is our biggest international gateway and our premium international customers – the high-yield travelers who fly US Airways to Europe in particular – want the type of amenities and premium services associated with airline Club lounges. So it wouldn’t make sense to pack it up and move it out, right? We’d be waiving good-bye to revenue and that’s no way to run an airline.
