PHL......To be shut down.....?

This one went south real quick, but we've been asked to open it back up since it has big ramifications for the new US. Lets keep it on topic or it will be shut down again.
Thanks.
Lock it up again.

It's a bogus rumor started by a pilots wife.
Just a flame starter.

PHL has two main runways to use

Its a good thing PHL has something going for it!
Because it dam sure doesn't have a football team!!

I don't know if this is true but....someone said that DP has threatened to shut PHL down if the rampers don't get their stuff together.

DUH! This is our biggiest and most profitable HUB also if it can be turned around it will the crown jewel and mother load all rolled into one! Doug is not about to give up this quick. Not his style he will fire all the managers and supervisor first! I think the common feeleing is it is not the front line employees in the East but it is Managers and above. Once a complete integration is in affect I would expect more and more AWA people to move East. But they are needed in Tempe first to balance the east managemnet during the integration (which so far seems to think things where done just fine the old US way)!
My advice if you are a manager or director and in the past you felt you couldn't do anything becuase your hands where tied well they are now untied and you better get to work or start looking elsewhere!

Rest assured, someone is reading this board. From today's about US:

Rumor has it...
A message board entry read: Someone said that Doug Parker has threatened to shut PHL down. I’ve also heard that they’re going to close the PHL US Airways Club, which may just be an offshoot of hub, but any truth to that one?

Fact or Fiction?
Closing hubs and clubs? We think not. But, just to be sure, we went straight to VP of Schedule Planning and Analysis Andrew Nocella to answer this rumor. Here’s his “On the Record†response:

The Philadelphia hub is among the highest revenue producing cities in the system. As a hub, it’s in a great place – in the midst of a densely populated area filled with people who are willing to come to the PHL airport to fly with US.

That being the case, you can bet your bottom dollar we’re not going to shut down a revenue stream, so Doug (or anyone, for that matter) does not plan to shut down the Philadelphia hub.

At the same time, the Philly hub needs some attention and we’ve already begun to provide that. We began with new equipment leading into the holidays. And a new leader – Tony Grantham – has taken over the station. Tony has a strong commitment to employees and a passion for great service.

In terms of the Club closing, the answer is a similarly emphatic NO. Philly is our biggest international gateway and our premium international customers – the high-yield travelers who fly US Airways to Europe in particular – want the type of amenities and premium services associated with airline Club lounges. So it wouldn’t make sense to pack it up and move it out, right? We’d be waiving good-bye to revenue and that’s no way to run an airline.

If you have a rumor you'd like us to address "on the Record," e-mail us at corporate.communications@usairways.com.

i understand that. but you know how people are. they will change your words quickly. you shouldn't have even posted this to begin with. you know it's total bs.

I don't know if it's true but I heard last years Christmas melt down was due to an inordinate number of sick calls. Can anyone confirm this rumor?

LOL, barbell!

Unfortunately, we pax can't read the full issue of About US just yet... JustPlaneNews hasn't posted their PDF version as of right now. They also don't link it from the front page anymore... did someone in CCY West get mad?

I have no idea other than I know it's supposed to be an "internal" newsletter so maybe they wouldn't want it on the public Web, but there's nothing in there that's not public... is there?

Perhaps the guy who runs the justplanenews site just hasn't posted it yet. Perhaps he has a personal life that takes precedence over justplanenews!

OK OK OK I know I'm overreacting, I'm just addicted to my AboutUS, can't live without my weekly dose of management spin doctoring... I should know, I'm a PR person myself  B)

JPN is a great resource

Well after flying through PHL for the past 3 weeks , I've seen noticable improvement. There are employees around and they do help people. It's almost sad to list that as an improvement. There have not been horrid delays sitting on the runway. Granted the weather has been nice, but 2 years ago there would have been delays in good weather. I suspect that the 'rolling' aspect is working - I have flown through at 5-6pm on Thursdays which I believe is a peak time. Neither me nor my coworkers have had any delayed luggage.

My only real problem has been in CLT this year, there's been some horrible fog in Charlotte (which is no one's fault) - in fact I was delayed for 3 hours in the AM due to fog the other day. When I flew ORF-RSW for an entire year in 2001 I remember some scattered 20-45 minute delays for fog but not 3 hours!!
