There are many tough days as we integrate US West and US East ( I like that jargon for some reason), but as the f/a's have put the DOH issue behind them, I have started to see many positive dialogues between both groups. We are indeed one group now. US East brings her wealth of experience and loyalty while US West brings her youth and vitality. We have a CEO who believes in US and to be honest, one hell of a route network. Now I will not go back in the aviation archives, but I am proud to say that I was one of the first to say that this marriage would be the best if a merger were to come US Airway's way. Ok, pat my back.

We at US EAST have been soooooo knocked down that if we come across as cynical or sometimes negative, it is only because we have heard every song and dance known to mankind. The positive thing for US WEST to look at is that we old coots still love our jobs!! That should give all of you in the industry hope.

Those unwilling to see a positive vision for US Airways will ALWAYS be negative. Those unwilling to change the way we do business will continue to complain.

I will finish 19 years in February. WOW!! Starting 20 years to me is nothing short of a miracle. Ok, I just want my diamond. :p I can get pissed off on this forum, but I realize who pays my bills and I realize that this is not the same industry that I started with. I also realize that I must be willing to change and accept doing things differently.....

BUT .....negativity BREEDS negativity. It is infectious. It will bring down a crew faster than cancer itself. Infact, it IS a cancer. We are ALL at a turning point. Either we envision a successful US Airways or one of failure. Well, friends, I am TIRED of negativity...TIRED OF IT!!! Management I feel is working to change that. Just give us the tools to make you proud.

For my fellow US EAST colleagues, please be patient with this new team. I know we all want perfection yesterday....or at least I do...but I just feel differently about Doug Parker. It's just a feeling. Why not give Tempe a chance?

For my colleagues at US WEST. please be patient with us, but also draw from our experience. With all of the early outs and retirements...coupled with Doug's fresh approach, there is a tide of positive energy and change at US EAST. You don't get beaten down for 18 years and all of a sudden warm up to someone who truely believes in you. Already great things are happening. And know, we have been down the merger road. Our greatest asset at the new US Airways is Doug Parker. He and his team is something none of us had in our pass mergers.

On the light side, I'm just sick of people my age. I'm ready for some young blood. Ah, hell, who am I fooling, after swearing off dating fellow f/as, I am ready for just that. Let's enjoy this thing called the travel industry together. Now that's being positive.

I know this has been long and many will poo-poo it and make wise crack remarks, but I for one vow here to envision a highly successful US Airways and to do my very best to be a part of a winning team spirit. Will you?

Well said!

Guess you all forgot about the paycuts already?

Here we go. Hey, I hated all the paycuts and God knows all the old managements have alot to blame for the mess we got into. But we employees must do the same. When US merged in all the companies in the late 80's, over half the employee group got raises, superior working conditions, and unrealitically beneficial contracts. Those best in the industry contracts almost killed us, but NOOOOOOOOOO, not one employee spoke out that this pigfest of expensive contracts would someday bite us on the butt. IT WAS GIVE ME, GIVE ME, GIVE ME, SHOW ME THE MONEY, GIVE ME MORE!!

So while I don't like paycuts, I HAVE NOT forgotten the paycuts. They saved our arses and have positioned us well. Once again, those unwilling to change the way we do business will continue to complain. You are a great example. The day of the cushy contract is OVER!!

firstamendament, I couldn't agree with you more. DP is a visionary with great people skills and the courage to make neccessary changes. Many of the skeptics don't agree, but pass me the kool-aide...a nice long cool drink will be refreshing! ;)

 Firstamendment...

Great post !

As a "new" US ( 11 yr. HP fa) FA , I think you summed up very nicely the feeling that most of my US West co-workers have about this merger.

I ,( and indeed many) of us are looking forward to developing new friends among our big, new US Airways family"!
While we have been and still somewhat are concerned about the wide disparity in seniority....and lengthy RSV. issues at East, we mostly do believe that NOW is the time to think positive, move on and make sure that this new entity survives...and in fact, thrives!!! We all must work together to build this new airline.

I think these postings on here on this issue have been very uplifting! Looking forward to meeting you all and swapping industry stories someday! Peace.

You sound like me when AWA was under the infamous Bill Franke. The environment was so negative that it was miserable!!! I hated that time and never to want to go back to a negative work environment, this job is too easy to be miserable.

I'd like to follow down the garden path.

However I'll take a wait and see on Dave Parker.

The problem is I remember Butch Schofield saying; Trust me and give me a chance, I'm not like the other guy, I'm labor friendly.

The problem is I remember Steve Wolf saying; Trust me and give me a chance, I'm not like the other guy, I'm labor friendly.

I remember Rakish Gangwal saying; Trust me and give me a chance, I'm not like the other guy, I'm labor friendly.

I remember Dave Siegal saying; Trust me and give me a chance, I'm not like the other guy, I'm labor friendly.

I remember Dave Bronner and Bruce lakefield and so on etc, etc.

This one is old school Ivy league BS.

There is room at the top their telling you still, but first you must learn to smile as you kill.

Remember the old adage; Screw me once shame on you, screw me 10 times shame on this fool!

T-Bone

I understand where you're coming from, which is why I wrote what I did about us being cynical and negative at times and that we have heard every song and dance. Yes, time will tell but I guess for me I just have to believe. If I don't, I gain nothing but resentfulness and hostility. In the end that will only put me in the hospital or an early grave so really, what the hell do we have to loose?

On Bill Franke's last day at AWA everyone in my dept and many others at HQ were forced to go down to the lobby so that we could give him an ovation when he left.

The irony of course is that we were not praising Ceasar, we were burying him.

Sure we clapped, because that SOB was finally leaving! It ironically turned out to be cathartic.

Only wish I could have been there a year later when the evil Sr. Director of Staffing was yanked out of there, kicking and screaming by the security guards when they fired her ass. I would have given a few month's salary to watch that!

I'm with ya on this, first!

Sure you are.....

Ok everyone, lets put on a happy face and bend over and smile for "the new boss, same as the old boss"

Some never learn but rectify with invented fantasies so they don't have to change directions. It's painfully obvious the unknown is more painful then the constant bending over for these fear filled posters.

Negativity you say…try a hefty dose of harsh reality. You’ll see it only if you get your mind around your protective coating of fantasies. It’s sort of like the few that can clearly see the spirit world that surrounds us all with it’s evil spirits whispering twisted suggestions into the fear filled which are followed by the majority of these weak souls leading to the sorrows printed here that have made these aviation boards what they are, filled with the tough realities of the airline world in which most decide to believe they are not living in.
