Cornerstone indeed...what happened, the CRJ-700 can't make it? ORD will be the first "Cornerstone" our combat accountants remove.

Eventually another will fall, then another till those of us that still have a job are hunkered down in DFW waiting for the end...

This is more of a victim to competition for connecting traffic than anything else. Since LH bought out SN Brussels and Swiss, AA has probably lost a lot of market share at BRU and ZRH, which are both relatively small local markets.

Plus, UA is also in the ORD-BRU market with mileage reciprocity for the LX and SN loyal fliers who live there. There are better connecting opportunities beyond ZRH/BRU from the oneworld hubs in LHR and MAD for those customers who want the miles, so why waste the aircraft, crew time and fuel?

The only other routes out of ORD that could face a similar fate are FRA and CDG. Both have a large enough local market that I wouldn't expect either to go away anytime soon.

Not sure where you've been lately but ORD-FRA was discontinued last November. Pretty pathetic that AA can only maintain one daily 763 from DFW to Western Europe's largest economy.

It also shows that AA's transatlantic and transpacific service is concentrated to/from alliance partner hubs moreso than any other US or EU major airline.

Ah, must have missed or forgotten the press release. Haven't flown there in over 15 years, but it also makes the point: LH and UA essentially own the market after 15 years of antitrust immunity, just as DL/AF/KL own most of the traffic to AMS.
