Ops Center - Which one survives?

Then again, when they find out that in the DFW area a "hard freeze" means down to 27 in some nearby towns, and that hard freeze is followed by 70 degree highs 3 days later, they may decide to take a chance.
In 1978 Allegheny got 11 727 100's from UAL. We did not have a 72 sim as it was being built in house by our techs. It was a 707 sim from Pan AM. During that winter we used AA sim at the Learning Center near the abandoned airport. It was ususual but there was a lot of freezing rain and one snow of somewhere around 8 inches. Our fun during the ice and snow storms was to to stand on an overpass and watch the circus below. Many drivers would accelerate until they lost control and spun out. If they didn't get stuck in the median or hit something they would once again hit the gas and accelerate until they once again lost control. DFW was really a mess. I was going home on days off and arrived at the airport at 11am and I think we finally got in the air about 7pm. Just not enough deicing equipment or fluid. Not picking on Texans (my son is in Houston), but on the average they do like to drive fast. I guess that's bacause of the size of the state or maybe it's part of the state constitution.

Cheers,

Bob

I bet your number is wrong.  Most (schedulers, at least) will move, or at least join in with the crew dogs they've been "dogging" for decades, and commute.  (Welcome to the club!)  Unless they have enough years in to collect some retirement money they will take the transfer to DFW.  Outside of US Airways, there is little demand in PIT for experienced crew schedulers and airline dispatchers.

I don't know the salary levels of those employees, but I also bet that they would be extremely hard pressed to replace that income in PIT, given the job market in general.

I do agree that the workforce in PIT is exceptional.  The airline should do whatever it can to encourage them to stay on in some capacity, but I really don't think those capacities will be in PIT, either.
