In the particular instance of the crew chief I'm thinking about, even 10 years wouldn't be enough time as the supervision and management do not care to do anything to rock the boat and get them noticed by someone even higher up. They would prefer to let a good man transfer out before they would correct a major problem.Six months is too short... a lot of employees take six months to figure out what the job is. It's during the second six months where they start to figure out where and how they can slack off and get away with it.... 12 month probation might make that a little easier to nip in the bud.
